Hope is out after failing Second time.

Hey guys,

I appeared for my second attempt on the weekend and needless to say that I failed it badly. I was kind of forced into this exam by my boss even though I told him that I was not fully prepared. I tried several mock tests, I was getting around 50% on all of them. That was a clear indication that but I was stuck in a situation where I couldn’t do anything.  Now I have only one chance left and I am not sure what to do, or what to even study to crack this PMP.

So you have a reason to fight with your boss now. Go and fight first and try your best to recover at least the financial loss you had.

One thing good from your LL I see is that your maturity is good because you said that you knew you are not going to do well and so you did. With such a good maturity, I guess you should not need suggestion of anyone now. You have seen the PMP exam 2 times i.e. 400 questions. Make a good plan to study for the PMP exam, and also make a good plan to handle your boss this time. Good Luck!

PMP exam is really specific, and require a plenty of study  time and regularity. How long did you prepare for your first attempt? And how long for second one? Did you study regularly? And what sources (books, mock exams) did you use?

All the best,

Hi SS,

I have a point though I can not bet on its relevances.

I also appeared once with 15-17 or may be 20 days of preparation with no knowledge on Page 43 of PMBOK, ITTOs and not enough command over PMP-Maths either.

Howevr, my point is in spite of me taking the test once and even if someone offers 500 billion dollars to me to come out with one single question that appeared, I would start looking at you, Help me by answering even one and take 50 % of 500 bilions. Point I am trying to drive is SS, unless one is thoroughly prepared with the aid of PMBOK or is immensely experienced, appearing in actual PMP test is akin to taking PMStudy, Rita, PMPforsure et al. Even to fail and rememebr few questions, the preparation part has to be thorugh, This is what I feel.  Wrong or right, I would wait for your Expert Judgment, as always!

And I already said what I am saying might be irrelevant :) :) :)

Warmly, KK....

Hey Kranti – Doing mistake for the first time and making a lesson learnt is positive from natural learning perspective. You learn from mistake. When you say you gave PMP exam <20 days, it’s under the same category i.e. you were not properly guided, you were not prepared, you did not know PMP exam much etc. See yourself today, the maturity you have gained after failure. You have learnt from a mistake you did. Ask yourself a question today – “Were you really prepared from the PMP exam the last time you gave?” you will get “NOOOOO” from your conscience. Do you know why? Because you have matured over these days and you are ready for the PMP exam and also ready to guide PMP aspirants the right path.

The second case is that a person gave the PMP exam 2nd time, knowing he/she is not prepared. Boss forced him….whatever! This cannot be called a mistake it’s rather negligence. Honestly, you have failed knowingly. I do not see you make any lesson learn in such case.

I hope you will understand the difference what happened with you earlier and what went wrong with sk1982.

@ sk1982- Please forgive me to use you as an example to explain Kranti. At the same time, what I have said is an honest thought from my side, you might feel bad, but believe me journey towards success also has dark roads.

Hi

Take a small break and go to place where you can have some nirvana.

Personally I feel that success can be shared but sorrows can not be shared they are all thyself. Though people console but situation or grief is beyond control of anyone.

Taking cue from here there is NO point blaming on the boss for the failure as it may adversely impact some other work dynamics and could lead you to further distress. Consider that what has happened is for good only, as you can NOT go back in past and undo few things.

Have a healthy chat with your boss and explain him with full transparency on the ground zero realities (assuming he is people's person). Let him know your plan for coming attempt and try to seek his support but before have your plan ready.

Did you identify which areas you performed badly?
