Need Guidance -PMP Prepration

Hi All,

I need some help and guidance. I am preparing for PMP from last 3 months but not able to get the confidence. I have completed Rita (once), Head first (once) and PMBOK (once).

I gave Head first exam and scored only 63%. also tried pmforsure 50 Q free test and failed. I am not able to relate question with what i read from the books. Where i am failing and what shall i do to improve myself.

Moreover...I am not understanding Cost formulas. though i read the chapter twice but not able to solve most of the questions from COST and EMV.

I am studing 1-2 hrs daily.

Please guide me and let me know what and where i am doing wrong ? Am i not seriously studying??

Thanks and Apprecitae if you guys can guide me.

Regards,
K

Hi

I would advice you to join a PMP boot camp, it may help you to sail through the initial headwind. Further it may set the mental frame necessary to prepare for PMP and will help you to settle down into the PMBOK context. Headfirst is one of the easiest exam and your score is below average so it seems you definitely need more preparation. Also see PMP material available on this site.

Take a look at the lessons learned posted on this site by various folks, it will help you to get organized and find missing pieces from your prep plan.

Thanks Markand!!

Thanks fr your advice. i will look for some good training courses.

You did the right thing i.e. after spending 3 months in reading all recommended books you took a prototype approach to judge yourself, how well prepared you are. You find that you are not well prepared by seeing result and also you suspect that you are not well prepared. So far things are good.

Recommendations from here:
1. Do not hurry for PMP exam, have patience until you are confident
2. Might be you have acquired bookish concepts and you are not able to co-relate your knowledge to PMP type questions. I see this applicable for you. One best way could be - get Rita Fast Track Simulator and practice questions chapter wise like learning i.e. attempt a question, see the result and read and understand carefully its explanation. This activity might take a month time. I am sure this approach would work for you and bring in confidence you are lacking.
3. Other way could be, get some 1000+ questions from some trusted source and practice 30-40 questions daily. See your result and for each question try to refer PMBOK and read those section.
4. Most important – The worst thing that can happen is that you fail in PMP exam and nothing more. Accept this. What if you fail? Simple – Pay the exam fee and try again. In short, it’s nothing more that a loss of some time and exam fee. Once you have fearless mind, your study style especially your visualizing power would change and you will start seeing book materials in a different and a practical way.

This is all I say, man is the master of his own fate, look yourself and plan your journey.
