Passed PMP on 30/05/2012

 Hi Everyone,
I am glad to say that I passed PMP Exam on May30th (last week), in first attempt with the following result:<?xml:namespace prefix = o />
Initiating:                                             Proficient
Planning:                                             Proficient
Executing:                                           Proficient
Monitoring & Controlling:                 Proficient
Closing:                                                Proficient
I decided to write PMP in November 2011 and after some research I purchased PM-Prepcast for the 35 contact hours course. Initially I used it just to get the 35 contact hours certificate, in order to fill up the application form.
I completed the application process and finally got the approval from PMI on Jan 2, 2012 (I was lucky to clear it without an audit).
As I was going through lessons learned from other people, I went with their advice and booked the dates for my exam on March 5th, 2012. But I could start my preparation only in Feb and also postponed my exam twice in between due to family commitments and my 1 month long family visit to India.
Finally I fixed the date to May 30th, 2012 and decided to stick with it this time (Thanks to the new policy of PMI, where they charge for rescheduling now). After almost 2 months of study, I cleared this exam on May 30th.
 Study material:
1.       PMBOK Guide 4th Edition
2.       Rita 7th Edition.
3.       Headfirst 4th Edition
4.       PMPrepcast
 Study Plan:
1.       In Feb beginning, I Started with HeadFirst, read all chapters and solved all chapter end questions. I scored between 70-75% first time.
2.       Studied Rita, and referred Headfirst together for the differences. Solved all chapter end questions of Rita and scored between 64 to 72%. I completed it by Feb End.
3.       I was also listening to PMPrepcast during my morning walks and during the day when I was doing some other physical work.
4.       I could not study for almost 2 months, in between, and started again in April end with PMBOK guide reading in detail and made notes. By this time, I knew many concepts, so my notes only had the concepts I was not comfortable with.
5.       Did some sample tests and made the notes for the wrong answers as well as guessed answers (Very important! Always go through the details of wrong answers as well as other answers which you were not 100% comfortable with).
6.       Read Rita 2 more time and added important points in my notes.
7.       Finally by this time, I had few concise notes of PMBOK and Rita combined and notes of sample questions.
8.       ITTO: I did not memorize ITTOs, but I took printout of page 43 of PMBOK and also printouts for all ITTO pages in PMBOK (i.e. 9 pages), and read them all once every day. Believe me, if you just go through it every day once and try to understand the reason for all ITTOs, then no need to memorize. Also I tried to visualize them with symbols, and also tried to remember points like:
·         What all processes have single output?
·         Where different baselines can be input/output ?
·         O.P.A. / E.E.F. updated in what all processes?
·         O.P.A. /E.E.F. input in what all processes?
·         Similar points for PM Plan and PM documents.
This kind of points are really helpful in answering the questions in exam.
Before 10 days to my exam, I started giving sample exams from different free sites and also bought PM Exam Simulator and gave 9 paid exams there. Analysed results for all wrong answers and also for answers I was not very confident with and kept on adding to my notes.
10.   Revised all the notes after every 2-3 exams.
 Day Before Exam:
1.       Revised all notes and have gone through ITTOs and processes.
2.       Gave 1 final sample exam
3.       Slept early and had a nice sleep.
 Exam Day:
My exam was scheduled at 11:00 AM. I revised ITTO points and looked at the printouts for ITTOs once. Had breakfast and reached the center before 1 hour.
As I was feeling very nervous, I decided to calm myself down by just relaxing in a coffee shop and had a nice coffee.
After completing all formalities, I finally entered in to the exam hall at 10:45 AM.
As per the advice given by all, I used the first 15 min. for writing down the dump sheet, which included page 43 of PMBOK and few formulas.
Started the exam, and found the questions not very difficult! I could complete first round 130 questions in 2 hrs, where I marked almost 35 questions. This moment I took my break for 5 min. and then completed rest of the questions.
Revisited the marked questions and changed 2 of them and finished my exam before 16 min remaining.
By the way, I was very confident at this moment that I can expect a ‘Congratulations! ‘ on the screen J.
As expected, I received a positive result with ‘proficient’ in all. I was sooooooooooo happy, it was a dream came true!
Most important advice : Keep yourself calm and focused during the exam.

You said "HeadFirst 4th edition". Is this a typo? I thought the latest edition is 2nd!?

 Congratulations !

One quick question: How to get 200 questions from PMI membership mentioned above ? Is it a full test from PMI or a book available on eLearning link for the PMI members ?
