Failed 5/20/2012
Study/read pmbok x1, rita x3 for three months , practice a dump sheet in 8mins... formulas and pg 43 pmbok finish the test in 3:36hrs with 42 q to review.
Disappointed, got 2mp and 3 bp.... but will be trying again in the 45days.... I will get it on my second try!
LL
Dont take any prep test until you have read PMBOK atleast 2-3 times and which ever another book you use x2, I know its hard, but try to understand pmi/pmbok way first and then... then take quiz or mock to help fill your gaps,or to see how prepared youre..... always go over wrong answers and even the right ones too, just in case you did know the answer but got it right. To me the real exam felt like, pmstudy, examcentral and headfirst, and (pmforsure, was the mock questions I paid for) but was just a bit harder....so after I re-study pmbok those are the mocks I will use. Also dont take a test/quiz/mock more then 2 times because after that its just from memory. Also it felt like the test/qestions were directly line for line from pmbok so please read book and the glossary too.
Risk, Quality, Scope, Time & HR in this order was hugh on my exam lots of picture diagrams ev,spi, cpi, bac,cp.
Rita chapters quiz ,60 to 70% first try, 90-98% second try
Andy chapters quiz 70-80%, 92-95% second try
Andy full test 200Q - 70%,
Pmp for dummies 70% first try, 90%, 285q second try
pmforsure 60-70% first try, 92% second try did all 1050q
examcentral 75%, 81%, 83%, 91% 888q
Headfirst 86%,second try 92%,
pmstudy 65% first try,68%,
Oliverlehmann 61% 175q, first try,
Farndales 60,70% first try, 82-90% second try
pmi mock 39/50,9/10,30/51,8/10,8/10,6/10,7/10,5/10

Next Time
Hi Edwards,
From your preparations and mock tests results you look to be an absolute certainty. However, your decision of retaking within 45 days is too good. You should take the test in 45 or less days since all the concepts are fresh and little more reading identifying on your knowledge gaps will do a world of good.
All the best...

Thank you,
I was in stock, disbelief.... uptil 8pm, but after some wine and friends and family ... and some tlc time... I am feeling better... yes i guess i should take it earlier than the 45days, i check PMI handbook its $275 to retake and also get up to 3times or in my case two more shot at it within the 1yr approval period. But I will get it the second time around.

How many?
How many questions did you encounter on ITTOs and formulas? Since you have read PMBOK 3 times so ITTOs should not be a concern. Right!!!

ITTO and Formula was only 20% of the entire questions....
no.... i only read pmbok once and rita 3 times....
My next time around I will read pmbok 3, and rita 2 and then only after reading those books i will take mocks exams.

You are score on mocks and
Your score on mocks and the number of mocks , you have taken really good.
Not sure, what would have gone wrong for you . Always there is "X" factor comes in play in anything - which is luck.
I bet , you will win for sure next time.
Is any of your mock exam closest to real exam ?

Hey Edward, cheer up! You
Hey Edward, cheer up! You will certainly clear it in 2nd try.
You should focus more on understanding the subject, than on attempting mock.
For next 45 days -
1. take one knowledge area at a time
2. understand it completely
3. attempt questions on it (PMFASTrack or any source you prefer)
4. mark the correct, understand and make a note of the incorrect one
5. once you are done with all knowledge areas, attempt 200 questions from the sources you prefer
Honestly, I felt most of the sources have similar questions, make sure of the quality.
Try to get Andy Crowe - PMP Pass on 1st Attempt book. It's more precise with concepts, and what you should know for clearing the exam. Additionally you can refer to Rita as well.
There are lots of sources, and it's up to you to choose the one you are comfortable with.
All the best!!

Sorry to hear that friend.
Sorry to hear that friend. PMP exam is like one day cricket match. No matter how good a player you are, if you don't perform on that particular day then nothing matters. Stay put and I hope you clear it the 2nd time.

Understand your actual mistake and work for it
I have a same question for you i.e. after studying PMBOK/Rita for 3 months and attempting about 5000 mock questions and securing good why did you fail?
The very first thing, I don’t want to discourage you and I also believe there is some “X” factor also for the PMP passing result, but at the same time we cannot keep “X” factor as a part of plan and preparations.
You have secured BP in 3 process group, in short you were not even close to passing. I would not go with majority of advise as given by others rather I would recommended and suggest you these (for your sake):
1. Read PMBOK and Rita with a different technique i.e. understanding concepts rather than learning things. Try to visualize concepts into real life examples. Imagine you are a project manager, how would you apply the IITO in your project.
2. DO NOT over study this time as over study leads to mind map i.e. you make a picture of book contents and do not read what’s being said.
3. While attempting mock test, read the question and understand it what it says. Put yourself in the situational question and think you were a project manager. Get into the question as a fiction character.
4. Do you know why this happened “I changed lots of answers and i didnt use my time wisely”….because you did not understand PM books material, it was just reading and not understanding. In short, PMP concepts not clear…confusion.
5. Keep in mind you have badly failed in PMP (honestly) means the mock questions you find difficult are actually right for you. In reality PMP exam was also difficult for you and hence you failed. Use those mock tests that looked difficult to you.
I am an instructor and counsellor and hence have put on my views. Please take it positively and keep in mind, bad days have gone now. You have bright day waiting for you to bring good news, but this can only happen if you understand your actual mistake and work for it. All the best!

WOW...I needed to you that txs.
I now know that i didnt fully understand the concepts but i knew how to answer the questions but not the questions dircetly from PMI, so that is my study plan to go over 5 process groups and understand the whys and whens so to speak.
