Failed on PMP Exam - 1st try - 2 hours ago

Hi Everybody,

I failed on my PMP Exam 2 hours ago and have achieved awful results:

2 MPs and 3 BPs. I have studied 3 months, read PMBOK 2 times, Rita v6 - 3 times, Nair's notes - couple of times, took about 2000 exam questions from different sources: PM Study - 4 tests, Rita PMFAStrack - v7, exam central, o. Lehmann - 2 tests, PMP First try - o'reily, and some more free questions on the web from different sources including my company trainings and test simulations.  I do not know what to do more, I am pretty sure i have answered on most of the exam questions correctly , but apparently i am not smart enough to understand the PMI logic behind.

Would you please reccomend some online classes (instructor led if possible)  so that to pass on my second try (still have not scheduled the date, but the latest possible option is 1st of October 2012)

Thank you very much and if you have some questions/recommendations to me, please feel free to drop me a msg at: roskata.boskata@gmail.com

Thank you so much.

Today I terribly failed with 4 BP and 1 MP ... I studied Rita 6th, Headfirst, and almost 2 times PMBok!!! and also attended like 100's of question online ,,, the exam was so strange, although I felt I solved a good number of questions correctly...

Maybe we should read the material with a clearer mind/vision ...

Good Luck.

There is always another chance dont loss hope. What really matters to get answers correctly is to interpret properly the question.

Happened to see this thread today and really felt bad to har. I cleared my PMP test today in the evening but barely passes man. Here is what I did to prepare my self... Took last 5 days off and spent about 8-10hrs a day, I didn't use any of this material you mentioned above; however, I used PMP 4th edition from Velociteach and purchaed the 4 Simulated Practice Test from pmstudy.com. the pmstudy.com simulated tests were the closest match what I saw in the test. Here is what I did exactly during the last 5 days.

> Studied each chapter in the Velociteach PMP Test Pre 4th Edition guide and appeared the test which were somewhat easy but my target was to score above 85%. Studied again and again until I reached my threshold of at least 80%.

> Then took the Chapter tests from PMStudy.com

> Eventually took the 3 simulated test and believe me this is what I scored:

   Simulated Test 1: 85%

   Simulated Test 2: 67%

   Simulated Test 3: 72%

It was too late for me to reschedule the test, so decided to appear for the test regardless. Here is my final score in the test

Intiation: Moderately Proficient

Planning: Moderately Proficient

Execution: Moderately Proficient

Monitor & Controling: Proficient

Closing: Below Proficient

Hope it helps...

Thanks

Hard Luck..but I am sure u guys will pass in the next attempt . I just passed the exam yesterday.

PMP exam questions are really tricky. Some tricks are as below ,

#1 - 1st remember the table in Page 43 in PMBOK

#2 - The moment you read the questions , find out which process group and which process it refers

#3 - To make it better , the monet I was given the monitor , I put down page 43 table in the rough paper given.

#4 - Out of the 4 choices , 2 will be easily eliminated, concentrate on remaining 2

#5 - this leades to a 50% chance of correctness , so find the best guess. If you are confused with these 2 choices , there is a big chance the best answer might be in the left out 2 opions..

#6 - Remember formulas , u will get around 20 to 30 questions

Again dont get panic , I am sure u wil do great in the exam next time..All the best.. Need any help , drop me an email at t_nayak_2000@yahoo.co.uk

Thanks

Tarakanta

Thank you everybody for the tips,  i followed Tarakanta advice and it seems out of the 2 possible answers i have alway hit on the wrong one :( .

Can somebody tell me what is the minimum requirements on scoring results, i mean how many Ps, MPs and BPs i can have least/most so that to pass the exam?

Thank you.

BR,

Rosen

Hi Friends !!

I too failed yesterday... It was really frustrating. I had gone PMP for sure  and OSP international and read PMBOK guide few times . Bought Rita book too.

Nothing helped me and all the questions I faced I didnt see them in PMP for sure or OSP (which has 2000 Questions)..

My results were 2 Below proficient and 3 moderately proficient.

I really hate PMP stuff now. The hard work I put it in was enormous.

Thanks

Khultum

khultum dear, there is always another chance. i think you have to learn how to decipher questions.Follow my thread here, the way i analyze and interpret questions and probably you will have a hint. surely u wiill come up with ticking the correct answer in the exam.

as you said and i agree with you, you were misled by some advertized stuuf here. so next time, be careful. to pass the pmp exam cannot be guaranteed by any simulator or whatever, but rather how deep you have understood the PMIsm principle of project management as published in the PMBOK guide. Hands on eperience will help, tho it would also be detrimental sometimes, especially if the experience is also away from the practice of PMI project management principle.

if you stil decide to take the exam, follow me and i can guide u through. sometimes i also post in pmptrend.com so u can follow me there if i am offline here in my home pmzilla.

I also fail in my first attempt on Nov 1st. Though I have also prepared thoroughly PMBOK-4, Crowe workout all the back tests and 5 online tests given by star PMO and memorize ITTO thoroughly, in spite of these activity my result is FAIL. And more, on this activity I did spend duration of three months.

But now don't want to give up and accepted its challenge to get through it.

Now I have adopted following strategy:-

1. Reading PMBOK4 and pointing out questions on each potential sentence of the book on each chapter.

2. Analyzing why particular ITTOs are required for the given process of each knowledge area.

3. After completion of each topic, answer all the questions pointed out.

4. Then answering all the questions of Rita's book given at end of each chapter in parallel process.

Kindly provide me all your expert advice, whether this process which I am presently following is correct and need some more enhancement

questions were by chance same as results , guys who applied with me passed and they said that they did not know how to answer

i dont feel of fair

Dear Ahmad, please don't give up! Quitters never win!! Good luck!!!

Frens! I would suggest you do not just limit yourself to only Rita or PMBOK ..There are a lot of training providers like PMTI, PMstudy, Knowledgewoods. You can opt to enroll for any of these classes and be more confident for your next attempt.

Hello Folks,

Got 4 BPs and 1 MPs .. i thought i had covered all the bases but the exam terribly exposed my shortcomings...i read PMBOK once and Rita 7th edition thrice..

Really very very disappointed... Need some advice and help. Also would like to know how i can retake the exam and is there any discount in exam fee ??

Thanks

Vinay

Please don't give up! Just take a short break and re-take the exams by concentrating on your weak areas!!
