This PMP Test is totally stressing me out!!! I'm terrified.

I took it in late December and I failed. I then went to take it last Friday and 3hours 10 minutes into the test, there was a power outage and we were all told that we had to re-schedule and retake the whole test. I'm now scheduled for March 19th.

I'm having problems with close project, closer procrement, etc. I had a lot of questions on this but I got totally confused. Can somebody tell me a little more about this? I'm not getting it ;-)

Also, the contract types. Does anybody have a simple way of quicly identify which contract bares the most risk for buyer/seller, etc?

Any input would be greatly appreciated! I really need to pass this test and its getting to be really hard on me.

 Thanks!

Lauri

Do not let your frustrations dictate the terms.  'Forming ---> Storming---> Norming---> Performing---> Closing' is a cycle every one has to go through and you are no exception and you have a lot of company and I am one among such huge pool  So you are not alone.  Now:

Problem:  You know that PMBOK4 is a dry book and I read it when I can't go to sleep and get over my sleeplessness problem comfortably without taking any medication.

Solution: Do Alternate Analysis.  Read books and articles that present these concepts in a simple format.  e.g. HeadFirst PMP; Jim Owens articles on each of these KAs presented nicely at PMHUB.Net site.  http://www.pmhub.net/index.php?id=news.display&newsid=NW4a737930a681c

Also DEEPFRIEDBRAINPMP.com is another highly valuable resource with articles and tips.  Read these first to develop a good understanding, then come back to PMBOK4.  Instead of feeling sleepy, you will start appreciating and more alert and awake and you have to resort to some other PMBOK equivalent to get some sound sleep.

Best wishes,

Chandra

Thank you Chandra!!!

Hello Lauri,

Have you seen lot of questions on RISK?

Thanks,

Raj

I must admit that I don't recall many questions on risk. The questions I recalled were on tools and techniques. Although is really hard trying to remember everything you got duiring the test ;-)

I did get a lot of questions on Project Close...that's why I'm so concern because I was really surprise about it.

Also, I had a questions about ethics that stuck to me:

It was in regards of a PMI certify PM and another PM (which is NOT PMI certified). It claims the other (none certifiy pm) was doing unethical things. Should the PM (PMI certify) report him?

As a PMI member or non member with PMP certification, you have to always take the highest and most Righteous thing- Does not matter your friend or relative or fellow PM practioner- does not matter that he/she PM certified or not- if you are aware of unethical practices going around you, you have to set a high standard by reporting and maintain the highest degree of professional conduct at home, at work and in service to the profession.

Chandra

Yes I understand that. However; if the PM has no relationship with PMI; I should not report him to PMI but to our company managemnet...right?

Yes.  PMI is no universal police and has no authority.  You have to report to the appropriate authorities.

Chandra

If you just stay calm, get a good nites rest. Don't eat too much the night before, and eat a nice health breakfast. This way your body will at least feel good, even if your brain is nervous. If you feel confident that you are capable of becomming a PMP, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Just be yourself, and you'll be fine.http://www.goldenrule.com

Lauri

I was in a panic mood as well when I sat the first round and failed. Take deep breath, or many deep breaths whenever you fell the anxiety building and think about the work Congradulations. I rescheduled my second exam attempt 10 times until I found myself in the last week of exam eligibility. Don't beat yourself up? Take a two -4hour practice exams each day before you sit for exam. and practice writing brain dump twice a day. Night before, turn off phone, tv and relax and get a good night sleep. Eat a light breakfast and drink water.

You will be a PMP on March 19th 2010

Thank you very much for your input. I truly hope you are right ;-) (about the congratulations part).

 THANKS.

Lauri

Hi,

I just wanted to wish you luck on the exam tomorrow! I'm sure you will do well!!! Please let us know how you did.

Take Care,

M.

Thank you for wishing me good luck. Unfortunately I did not pass. I was extremly down and disapointed! I am now in the process of buying either the Rita book or Andy's since I never read any of those before. I'm still trying to figure out which one to buy. I am also considering going to one of those "boot camps". It all depends if my employer is willing to pay for it ;-)

I'll give it one last try...I thought I was going to be ok but I guess I was not as ready as I thought. I really want to get this done and over with! This whole situation is stressing me out and taking too much time!

We'll see what happens...good luck to you too!

-Lauri

I'm just curious, what was your strategy for taking the exam? Did you take any practice exams? Did you have alot of formula's on the exam? Any advice for future test takers?

Well, Rita or Andy will work.I think Andy is easier to follow then Rita, but they are both good books.

I'm sure you will pass the next time!Laughing

I did take a lot of practice test from all differnt websites. I thought I was good to go.

I only study the PMPBook 4th edition. I am now in the process to buy Andy's or Ritas's whichever is easier to follow.

I did have a lot of math on my test (I'm not really good in math) LOL

Although I had memorized all the formulas; I struggle to answer a couple of math questions. I guess I just got too confused!

Also, I never thought I would struggle with the Ethics and Resp. section but I did. This should be stratigh forward common sense but I guess I don't get it!

-Lauri

What were you scoring on the practice exams? From what I've read it seems like ppl that score above 75% are ready for the exam.

Lauri,

Sorry to hear you didn't make it...

Please don't worry, go thru all Knowledge areas one more time thoroughly.

Try downloading the podcast mp3 files for all knowledge areas and listen to them everyday / numerous times and then practice loads of tests.

Also try memorizing ITTO's.

You need any help post your questions here on the forum.

The podcast cost around $100 right? I also need to buy one of the books either Rita's or Andy's. Gosh..I have invested a lot of money on this certification ;-)

Dear,

If you have considerable time (3 to 5 months, since you are working) you can go for Rita, if you don't have go for Andy.

I am using Andy and Margaret Chu's Achieve PMP along with PMPrepcast.

And we should go for one PMStudy's Simulated Practice Tests. I came to know from our friends, this is one of the best and it is near to the real exam.

Wish you all the best,

Regards,

CHOWDARY

Weren't you given any syllabus for the exam? The one who instructed you should have given you the answer instead of us because PMP test is not same in every region. Every different country has difference in their syllabus and don't match exactly. If you really want to pass out and if you want to rely on internet then you need to learn much more than what you should have but it's sure that you will get broad knowledge throughout this website to broaden your practical work and pick up
your own track.

Hi Maheshwor

Can I get some more info as basis for the line "PMP test is not same in every region. Every different country has difference in their syllabus and don't match exactly".

Because , I do'nt agree to this as of now.
