Communications Mgmt question
You receive a last minute status report from a senior member of the project team that you believe is incorrect. It shows tasks as complete that you are almost certain are no more than 60% complete, and it documents deliverables as having being turned over to the customer that you do not believe are even finished yet. You are walking into a communication meeting with key stakeholders. What is the BEST way to handle this problem?
A. Ask the team member who wrote the report to sign the bottom of it.
B. Ask the stakeholders to wait a few minutes while you try to verify the information.
C. Summon the project team to the meeting and get to the bottom of the discrepancy.
D. Do nothing with this status and provide an amended report at the next meeting with the stakeholders.
Please also briefly explain.
Thank you All.

Answer is C
As a PM you have to exhibit unquestionable degree of character, conduct and integrity, and accountability.
Option A - Trying to pass the buck and cover yourself for any legal consequences by asking your team member's signature. As a PM you have to build the team, verify the facts and take corrective actions - not resort to finger pointing. So 'A' is wrong.
Option B. Ask the stakeholders to wait a few minutes while you try to verify the information. You got to do your homework b4 going to meeting with Key stake holders. Keep them waiting does not reflect well either on your part or your organization part - a weak choice.
Option C: Summon the project team to the meeting and get to the bottom of the discrepancy. As a PM, Confrontation is the best problem solving technique. Best approach. You and your team are transparent and showing the best intention to provide truthful info to key stake holders.
Option D: Do nothing with this status and provide an amended report at the next meeting with the stakeholders.- Procrastination and avoidance is again poor. Key stake holders loose trust and confidence- Worst Choice of handling the situation.
