Hi All,

I was one of the lucky  person to find this site just in time when I started to prepare for the PMP,

Firstly I would like to thank GOD , My Mom, Dad ,Husband and my son and friends and relatives who were so cooperative and gave moral support .

Lessons learnt on this site helped me a lot in planning my study, till yesterday night I was checking for the tips and tricks, lessons learnt . So thought it is my duty to share my lessons learnt.

Those started preparing for the PMP 5 months back it was very relaxed study and  was not serious enough till last month because of the work and family commitment.

one thing that brought me back to track  money which I spent on the course and materials(two courses 29000 RS+29000 RS + Andy crowe 60 dollars+ rita book 6000 Rs+pmstudy 60$ + kim heldman and joseph books around 3000 Rs) .Hope to get a good return on this investment :). My pocket started getting empty and when this is a direct cost,  what about indirect cost like house maid, tuition fee as I could not spend any time for all these....during my preparation.

Study tips

1. PMBOK (3 times).

2.Rita (1 time).

3.Andy crowe( 3 lessons Quality mgnt, risk mgnt, cost mgmt) - Did nt hv much time to go thru this.

4.Rita fast track, took knowledge area wise and process wise tests, yesterday took super PMP inside the fast track .(Should  not have done this as it really upset me , I got only 73%). then consoled myself real exam Qs will not be this long).

knowledge area  wise used to score between(76-92%)

5. Had taken mock from various sites,

PM Study - all four scored between 78- 80%.

PM study free mock test , I scored 69% so revised again and took other tests .

oliverlehmann( 175+75) ,

course mock test( 500 questions) - used to score 75-80%.

miscellaneous sites - (500 questions).

by yesterday I had attended around (2600 questions from all sources).

6.Never memorised ITTO s, just understood it. Dont suggest to  cram them as it is very difficult to recollect them in the exam . if you understand them it is easy to pick the right answer.

7. Understand the DFDs given in the PMBOK. It is very important to understand the process  and concept.

8.I had many Qs in the exam asking what comes after this ,NEXT Process, only 4- 5 questions I remember asking for the ITTO and that to which are logical.

9.Exam was not as difficult as I thought it  would be .Many direct Q's were also there, Lot of Q's were on the type of risk and risk knowledge area. And some 5-6, I couls not decide on the answer very easily. bit confusing,

10.Formula problems were very very easy , straight forward,

11. Last  20 days  I spent almost 12 - 15 hours in  preparation. (As I am on my annual leave  I could afford to do this.).Finally I got so sick of it I understood I am done,I cant do this any more ,I read in one of the site, you are 'done preparing' when you get sick of it. but on an average 200 - 225 hours of preparation would be good enough to get thru this exam .

12. So last but not  least , would give you one tip, Spend 1 hour for each process (not less not more), you need good 42 hours. Know in and out of it ,understand each and every tool ,technique, output, input etc and after doing this take mock exams and check your gap and the knowledge area, keep repeating this till you reach a score of 75- 80 in mocks.

Thanks you all . 'ALL THE BEST'.

Thanks ,Nice to see you people in touch with 'PMZILLA'  and contributing to it, even after obtaining 'PMP',

Recently there was a discussion regarding the 'RMP' which is also from PMI, let me know if you have more details about the same like eligibility criteria, and material for the same. Risk concept is same as in PMP, but in little more detail, I will also do some R&D regarding the same.

Regds,

Manjula

Congrats for PMP.I cleared it two months and its a great feeling.

Besides RMP, if you are interested PMI has also come with new certification on agile. It's pilot is going on these days. So see if you want to explore that.

Manjula - Firstly many congratulations on your PMP and great writeup

On your question about RMP or other certification, I think one should only take other PMI certification which are relevant to their job. For eg. RMP is for Risk managers and Risk consultants, PMI SP is for people full time into Scheduling and expert planners,  PgMP is for Program managers and like wise. PMP is like universal and umbrella certification which is needed to show that you have basic PM skills. After that one should be careful in taking other certifications. Unless if you are in teaching profession and you want to show your credentials then its different thing. But PMI mandates experience in all certifications.

There are certifications from other sources also which may be relevant to your job. Agile PMs can take Agile certification its not only relevant, but it will help them in their job and also increase their market value.

Congrats

For Agile, i think SCM certification from ScrumAlliance will do the job.

Well done and thanks for share...
