Product verification question

You have completed a milestone in your software development project and you are now verifying that the product meets the specifications outlined in the project management plan. What process group is this process in?

  1. Quality Control

  2. Closing

  3. Executing

  4. Monitor and Controlling

Monitor and Controlling

it's Scordo question and answer is Closing

Final formal verification and acceptance of a Product as a whole is performed during the close project or phase process with the “Product Acceptance Criteria” mentioned in the Project Scope Statement

Project interim deliverables are verified in Verify scope process with the “Acceptance Criteria” mentioned the Requirements Documentation

The Ques says that we have completed a milestone. Does it not mean that this is an intermediate deliverable? If yes, then we should be in Verify Scope, which is part of M&C according to PMBOK4.

Can u pls clarify why you say it is in Closing group?

Thanks.

Though its given milestone is completed, where do we stand currently?

I took "now verifying that the product meets specifications"  in the question as a hint like what process we do currently..otherwise the question may have asked for just verifying deliverable...

I respectfully disagree...

Pls refer to page 101 of PMBOK4. One of the Inputs to Close Project/Phase is "deliverables that have been accepted through the Verify Scope process". This means that the inspection process has already been completed in M&C.

But in our case, "are now verifying that the product meets specifications"... means we are performing the process of inspection referred to above - Verify Scope - which comes under the M&C process group. It seems like the very definition of Verify Scope.

Would you agree?

The PMP exam need not necessarily provide explicit terms (eg 'verifying deliverable') as you suggest. They can spread the meaning across a few sentences and expect us to interpret it.

Regards.

A phase spans across all 5 process groups. Projects can be single phase or multi phase.

Pmbok (pg 19) Phase end can also be called as phase exits, milestones, phase gates etc..

You have completed a milestone in your software development project and you are now verifying that the product meets the specifications outlined in the project management plan. What process group is this process in?

As I understands- the word "specification" should be relevant to verifying deliverables for acceptance, thus it will be the part of M&C process group.

In project closure :p99

Since the project scope is measured against the project management plan, the project manger will review that document to ensure completion before considering the project closed.

p102

During project closure the project manager reviews ----------- customer acceptance documentation, from the verfy  scope process (sec 5.4) ------ to ensure that all project requirements are complete prior to finalizing the closure of the project.

now in light of above narrations, let see the content of question:

You have completed a milestone in your software development project and you are now verifying that the product meets the specifications outlined in the project management plan. What process group is this process in?

---------------------------

I dont find it should be in closing process group.

The word "Specification" is much more broader than just refering to a deliverable..

Glossary in pmbok (pg 449) has below definition for Specification:

A document that specifies, in a complete, precise, verifiable manner, the requirements, design, behaviour, or other characteristics of a system, component, product, result, or service and, often, the procedures for determining whether these provisions have been satisfied. Examples are: requirement specification, design specification, product specification, and test specification

If that's the only reason you cite it to be "M&C"..Otherwise it shd be "C" only

pmp is not a game of seek and hide--

question if asked like below , definitely be appropriate

You have completed a milestone in your software development project and you are now verifying customer acceptance documentation that it meets the outlines mentioned in the project management plan. What process group is this process in?

  1. Quality Control

  2. Closing

  3. Executing

  4. Monitor and Controlling

Agree with your views, pawar but literary created a stir for justifying the answers

One more question to solve doubts:

Your team has built an exotic sports car for a wealthy client, and now the project manager is reviewing the car to ensure it meets the specifications of the client, as agreed to in the project plan. What project management process is represented here?

  1. Closing

  2. Monitoring and Controlling

  3. Planning

  4. Execution

-----now the project manager is reviewing the car to ensure it meets the specifications-----

Is reviewing the car or car's documents?

car, meaning product ;)

 In project closure :p99

Since the project scope is measured against the project management plan, the project manger will review that document to ensure completion before considering the project closed.

and now the project manager is reviewing the car to Ensure it meets the specifications of the client, as agreed to in the project plan.

I WOULD LIKE TO GO FOR B

I strongly feel the answer should be M&C.

Consider the question: "what is the essence of verifying that the product meets the specifications outlined in the PMP? Change requests may be implemented as a result; but in closing, there is no need for changes.
