Which method for CPM Start Date 0, or 1.

The PMBOK SAYS 1 as do most other sources, but Rita uses 0. I'm assuming the accepter method is to use 1 as the start date as that's the ref in the PMBOK.

So can we just learn the start = 1 approach for exam purposes or do we need to be aware of the zero calc also?

Thanks in advance

Brian,

It should not matter. You can answer all questions related to CPM using either method (start with 0 or 1). Typically you are asked to calculate the float or identify critical path which will be same answer irrespective of the method. I had read Rita book before PMBOK, so I went with 0 method all along. If you are comfortable with 1 method, you can stick to that.

Thanks!

Well I went ahead and learned the day 1 method - it's basiically the same as day 0 method but you have to add or subtract ones all over the place, actually for every single number in the network. It's far more error prone than it is worh and as we know if you get off by one on the schedule then this problem will cause all subsequent tasks to be off also.

I now know both but if I was to do it again I would stick with the simpler day 0 method.

Brian.

Oh, I am also having the same concern. I hope the guys will help us on this one.
