Submitted by jagjitdhaliwal@... on Fri, 08/20/2010 - 07:01
Hi Team,
I generally gets confused by different types of reports. So far, I got some details about these types in Rita's book Page 363.
Is there any other source which explains different type of reports in detail. e.g.
Difference between Status & Variance Reports, Progress Report, Trend, Forecasting etc.
I would appreciate if someone can help giving example w.r.t software project to co-relate.
Regards,
Jagjit

Status report is your weekly
Status report is your weekly status update on all project parameters
Variance report is any variance from baseline to project's triple constraints
Trend report can be trend of any thing like trend of variance, trend of how project has performed
Progress report - Not sure , but its frequency would be different from Status repor
Forecasting is based on how the project is progressing today, what you predict as schedule, cost to be.

Thanks Admin,
Oliver 175 test - 156 question confuses me further. Why project status meetings are not project review meetings?
Which is not a type of project review meeting?
o Team review meetings
o Project status meetings
o Executive management review meetings
o Customer review meetings

review meeting is something
review meeting is something to think again on the current performance
status meeting is a bout the final result. Situation which we cannot change , only we will know.

Status Vs Progress Report
A] Status communicates the state of the project at current time.
- It stresses on Achievements
- It is brief (when compared to Progress Report)
- It is used to communicate status to higher management
Eg: Milestone Chart
B] Progress Report communicates what happened since last report
- It is used to communicate with Team to report project progress
- it is more detailed and longer with start and end dates and tasks details
- It emphasis on Events
Eg: Gannt Chart (Bar chart)

This is incorrect - Progress
This is incorrect - Progress reports are brief, while status reports are more detailed.
