share your experience as PM
Hi,
I know that some of you might see this question a bit weird but I know many aspirant PMPs or PM who have been in the Project Management field but did not really have a chance to act on their own will love to have an answer to my question.
Can someone please describe his first day ,first week and first month progressively when he/ she has been appointed as a brand new PM for a small to medium size project
What is the first thing he/she must do on the very first day?
I will be very much grateful and thankful if someone could share his/her experience and associate the daily routines with what we learn for PMP exams.
Thanking you all in advance for your comments and answers.

First time when you are
First time when you are appointed as PM its really an exciting feeling and feels fully charged up.
My Sr. Manager expected me to run a small project of 10 people. I was thrilled. 10 people reporting to me and we working as a team would have delivered great value to client.
There was lot of pressure in planning , assigning work, leading by example etc. Schedule management using MPP takes the most time.
First few years as PM you try to do everything right like mentioned in Rita's book or PMBoK, soon in your PM career you will mature and learn some pragmatic ways of doing things. Eg: Schedule plan, there is no need to directly open MPP and start putting tasks, before even the schedule plan is prepared, there is lot of ground work and planning required on papers. once all requirements and dependencies sink into your head, only then you should put things in MPP.
To start with you should meet all the stakeholders in the project and understand their stated and implicit needs. Before you meed the stakeholders, you should do homework to understand the project scope, schedule , issues, risks etc. You can generally find these documents in the project repository. First meet the Sponsor / Client to understand their perspective so that you can cascade things down to others.
