Scope Question

Can someone please confirm the answer to this question? I don't think the answer that i have is right.

B) The work that must NOT be done in order to deliver a product with the specified features and functions.


C) part of the project charter


D) part of SOW

More clarification check on project scope statement.

 

Project scope statement may include:

Product scope

project scope

product acceptance criteria

deliverables

What is not require in the project

constraints and any assumptions

Product scope  is all about defining what a product can do in terms of features and functionality.

B is definately wrong because project scope is the work that must be done in order to deliver a product with the specified features and functions.

Lets look at all the options one by one.


A: Features and functions that are to be included in a product of service -- Product Scope so not the right option.


B: the work that must not be done in order to deliver a product with the specified features and functions, this cannot be the option as this is talking about the product scope again, and the scope would anyways talk about what should be done and does not document the opposite.


C: Part of the project charter -- Yes the project charter does include the scope of the project


D: SOW : SOW should be a part of the project charter, as SOWs are an input to the project charter. C includes D.


I would go with C.

A is concerned with Product scope not to the Project scope ch 5 P 103


B . The word NOT - if removed then it is project scope. hence this will not be correct option. ch 5 p 103


C yes project scope is part of Project charter. 5.2.1.1


D Part of SOW is a Product Scope, and never be a Project scope. 4.1.1.1, p450 definition

Here is my explanation:

A) Wrong; bcoz this is product scope.

B) Correct; bcoz this talks about "Exclusions" which is part of Project scope statement.

C) Wrong; bcoz project charter contains very high level scope or initial scope. If question talks about this scenario it will mention specifically that they are in project initiation process or high level scope process. so as nothing is mentioned the default one would be in PLANNING.

D) Wrong; SOW does not contains Scope.

Answer B  - please read 4th last line of p103 PMBOK 4thEd.

 I narrate here the same line hers :

Project Scope . The work that needs to be accomplished to deliver a product servise or result with the specified features and functions.

Now if I put the word "NOT" or "DOES NOT" ahead of "needs" in above sentence., it will become :

The work that NOT needs to be accomplished to deliver a product servise or result with the specified features and functions. -----  Now it has been exlusion of had been said above = which is not a project scope.

Now  compare it the option B

 The work that must NOT be done in order to deliver a product with the specified features and functions.

Now compare your conclusion.

Second thing:

Scope Management Plan may be a part of Project Mangement Plan but not "Project Scope" - p448 PMBOK

For Option C  - 5.2.1.1 is only description. in define scope.
