Questions about PMP Prep Courses

Hello all and thank you in advance.

I am looking at options to do my PDU couses. I am running into a weird situation.
So the classes from PMI are 1800 Dollars which I thought was pretty standard. THen after digging around, i have found a ton of 3rd party schools which are very inexpensive. They all are listed on the PMI website. THere are also a ton of really cheap options on Groupon and such.

The one company I have found is called instructing.com. It is listed on the PMI website and seem to be faily legit. THe price for the class is 40 dollars which is a huge red flag. I was wondering if anyone had any success on here going through a 3rd party company such as this one. I researched it and do see that they are going off the PMBOK 5th edition, and its all entirely video lectures. This is offered through udemy.com
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you,

A few points:

1. PMI has a Regstered Education Provider (REP) program that certifies training companies to provide PMP training. PMI, itself does not conduct any training. PMI also allows non-REPs to conduct such a training.

2. There are 3 different types of training courses - regular clasroon, instructor led online and self-learning online. Out of these classroom courses are most expensive. Self learning online course are least expensive.

3. If you are looking for an online training, you should read comparison of different popular self-learning online PMP training courses. It will help you in determining which is the best one for you.

All the best.

Thank you for the reply,

yes, so here is the dilemma. The class that i found, instructing.com for example, is indeed listed as  REP on the PMI webpage, and i know that teh online classes tend to be cheaper, but 40 dollars sounds a bit too fishy compared to the 2000 for live classes. What do you think? would you trust a class this cheap? I tried to find reviews, but I really cant find much.
I also feel that at 40 dollars, i can afford to get burned, its the time i cant gain back.

Pmalik,

thank you so much. Please disregard my previous reply, as i did not see that link you attached. It really hit the nail on the head.
So i guess i will go wit the PM PrepCast as primary for only 200 dollars, and instructing.com as secondary for 40.

Do you by chance know of anyone who was able to successfully pass the exam using a self-learning method?

Regards,

Hi Jacobs,

All self-learning courses are not equal. You would have already found that out after reading my blog article.

The classroom courses are available only in big cities. But, many aspirants do not live in big cities or they do not have the budget to pursue a classroom course. They either rely on a self-learning online course or an instructor led online course. And they do pass the exam.

With self-learning courses, you just have to be self disciplined and self motivated. You will definitely pass, if you choose your course well and study hard.

Both your choices are good - PM Prepcast and Jospeh Phillips course (Instructing.com) avaiable at Udemy. Right now, you can get 10% discount on both these courses. You can check out discounts page on my blog.

All the best.
