Question on procurement process
Submitted by jagjitdhaliwal@... on Sat, 07/24/2010 - 21:21
Hi Team,
Have confusion regarding following question from Fastrack:
Which planning output may be revised and refined as it moves through the procurement process?
a) Contract
b) Procurement Documents
c) Procurement Statement of Work
d) Proposals
They mentioned answer as (C) but I think answer should be (B). Once procurement SOW is defined and contract is signed, I dont think SOW will undergo any changes. But procurement documentation can be refined during Administer Procurement.
Please let me know your thoughts on it.

That's correct
That's correct pkukilla,
SOW can be refined and revised till Conduct Procurement where as Procurement Documents can be revised in Administer Procurements too.
That's why I am confusing regarding answer to this question.

Administer Procurements
From the PMBOK: "Administer Procurements is the process of managing procurement relationships, monitoring contract performance, and making changes and corrections as needed." Think of this as the maintenance phase, after the contract has been awarded. Take a look at the outputs of Conduct Procurements and you'll see that there are a number of documents that may require maintenance. When project management practitioners talk about change control, this is part of that activity.
In practice, the SOW is modified extensively in most procurements, as the team managing the solicitations learn from the vendors. Many projects are re-scoped or canceled outright when the sponsors find that "it's not as easy, or as cheap" as they thought.
