Question on gift

You are working at a customer locatin in a foreign country where it is customary to exchange gifts during their new year celebrations. Your compagny forbids you to accept any form of gifts from your customer, but you have a strong feeling that if you refuse to accept and reciprocate the gesture, it can severely affect your relationship with the customer. In this case, it is best to

a politely refuse to accept any gifts explaining your compagny policy

B Discuss this situation with your project sponcor or legal department

C Accept the gift and keep it confidential so that there is no loss of face for your organization

d take a break from project work to go on a small vacation during local new year time

OK C and D are easy to eliminate, but between A and B what do you think and why

According to me, A is the right answer. As it is company policy not to accept gifts from customer, there is nothing to discuss with sponsor or legal dept as they have no say in it.

Nothing is more powerful than any country laws and its customs and if you are residing in that country you should follow that since it’s a respect to accept country culture. Here is what I would say:
A) Never do that since you will disrespect the country culture you are staying in
B) Best choice, you can discuss this with your seniors/legal keep them informed and accept the gift.
C) This is unethical since you should not hide anything you get which is part of the business and professional life
D) This will make you a weak person since you are running away when there is a situation to make decision.

good to know, answer was B, discuss with senior..

@Saket_pMP you are right, but if we must respect the country culture, here is a twist in another question that doesnt go in that sens

74 Your project has a virtual team. Half of your team members are located in another country, where they are working for a subcontractor. You want to promote the top performing foreign team member to a leadership position, but you are told by the other team members that women are not allowed to hold positions of authority. When you bring it up with their manager, you are informed that it is the subcontractor’s policy not to promote women, and that in their country, it is culturally considered offensive for a man to take orders from a woman. What is the BEST way to respond to this situation?

A ) Inform the subcontractor that they must adopt a non-discriminatory policy or you will be forced to terminate the contract and find a subcontractor that does not discriminate against women
B)Do nothing, because discrimination against women is a cultural norm in the subcontractor’s
country
C) Request that the team attend sensitivity training
d) Promote another team member, but find a different way to reward the woman for her work

Answer : A

First of all this question is on human rights and value and I would also have zero tolerance for discrimination of women. Men and women are part of the working team and they cannot be discriminated. If any country culture discriminate women on basic fundamental rights, it’s better not to work for them or get resources from them.  If you see the choice A, it does not talk about insulting the country by any means. The choice A says, let the country follow their law and go ahead by their culture, you would not have business association with them…that’s all. It is you who is quitting to work with them and project contract has such termination clause. This does not disrespect any country.

thanks
