Question

Hi,

Could anyone please help me in solving the below given scenario?

In Mr. Ashok’s last project status meeting, he had 15 team members. The meeting was very disorderly - there were too many sidebar conversations and arguments. As a result, he achieved nothing substantial from the meeting. In order to better regulate the meeting next time, he should:

a. Decrease the number of people in one meeting
b. Publish a meeting agenda
c. Ensure that he controls the channels of communication
d. Give incentives to team members for conforming to desired norms of the meeting

Raman. S

My answer is B. Why

a) Incorrect. They are team members and even it is 200 people there is no reason to decrease. Question does not say stekholders but team members. And it is a status meeting.

b) Correct. Because it makes meeting to focus on predefined topics only. Prevents 'sidebar conversations'. Most probably you will get out from meeting what you wanted to cover.

c) Incorrect. PM cannot control all channels. Quote: "Project manager cannot control all communications but should try to control to prevent miscommunication, unclear directions, and scope creeps"

d) Incorrect. Ground rules are rules does not require incentives.

These are my opinions. What is right answer?

c is my answer.Ensure that he controls the channels of communication

To control your meeting you need to have an agenda. This help to eliminate unnecessary conversation...

Hey ankita,

Did you find this question in the Q-Bank of www.apnacourse.com PMP Course. I found exact same question there...i guess even the answers with explanation provided...even i feel the correct answer shld be "B"

I would opt C. Im attracted to the word "Regulate" and hence this choice.
