Query regarding eligibility

Hello All,
I have a query regarding the eligibility for PMP exam.
I am 2.6 years experienced as a team member in developement and support project.I am planning to take up the PMP exam after 6 months.Am i eligible for the exam.I amreally passionate about the PMP Certification.Can any one suggest me a appropriate certification for me.
Also i heared that if i do a CAPM certification then for the next 5 years i cannot do PMP exam.Is this true ?
Please guide me.

I have a doubt
Thanks for the links.But i am actually confused about 1 thing.It it true that if i iake up a CAPM exam i wont be allowed to take the PMP to i complete 5 years ??
I coundnt search for this info anywhere.
This info was given to me by a training center when i went to book for a CAPM exam.
can you please let me know if this info is true.

When you meet eligibility for PMP exam, you can take it, there is no such restriction.
