Does Project Management for IT/Software Industry is different from other industry? If yes, How?

The concepts remain the same, which is generalized in PMBoK 5. But as you know software industry has its own set of challenges.

The intangibility of software and heavy dependence on skilled workers makes PM unique.

PM must have good people skills to connect with team and get the work done. PM must also have technical knowledge of the softwares and tools being used in the project.

Today with Agile/Scrum methodology the Scrum master is hardly a PM. The team self organises and completes the work. Its different kind of skill which is required for Agile projects.

So in nutshell I believe PM in software industry is very different from other industries.
