Preparing for PMP Exam
Submitted by banajab on Thu, 07/19/2012 - 04:12
I am preparing for PMP exam, highly motivated by this website, success stories and discussions. I have takem 35 PDU classroom training in April. Planning to take the exam in mid August. I have finished two rounds of PMBOK 4, one round of Head First, still not getting the grip on the subject.
Any specific suggestion on preparation? I have around 3 weeks, how to utilise this three weeks effectively?
I have started giving mock tests, scores are around 70-75%, which is not very good I feel,
Regards.

Excellent study duration
Excellent study duration and books refered. I see you are going good. You will become comfortable as you keep taking mock test and read books for gaps.
Here is the advice I can give you:
1. Take around 50 mock test questions daily and for all wrong answer refer the PMBOK and Headfirst for references
2. Do not hurry for 200 mock test in one go, its effectives is less when you see from learning perspective. You might take 1-2 such test a week before the exam.
3. Keep writing short notes as you notice your gaps. Use this notes and IITO pages from PMBOK along with summery pages for last revision.
4. Make sure you see yourself securing 65-70% in all process groups and not the overall percentage.

PMP Study
Thanks Mr. Saket.
Biggest challenge for me is to find time, like with many others. Trying to devote 2 years on week days and 4-6 hours in week-ends.
ITTO seems to be the most difficult part. It seems to be easy and quite logical when you read, but becomes difficult when you see a question in the test. Trying to build a good foundation on that. Sarted writing short notes as I read, as suggested. Surely this will help.
Started reading Rita, but finding too many study materials are creating problems in mind mapping.
Sometimes I am not convinced with the answers also, if that is not elaborated with logic. Don't understand whether to go by that answer or follow my own logic.

About 30% of PMP question are
About 30% of PMP question are debatable and hence PMI does not revel any PMP questions and its answer. For such debatable question, never open debate discussion because that will waste everyone time and you will just end up in more confusion. Trust the question author and move ahead.
The only way for you is that take some good, tricky mock test. Forum members can help you here in choosing such test.
The more you practice the test, you will get used to it and you will learn the techniques of answering tricky PMP questions, these are result of progressive elaboration and not something any books or guide can teach you.
