PMP Training and certification query‏

Hi,
 
I want to enrol myself for the PMP training classes and want to get certified in PMP.
 
i have 4.5 years of total I.T experience.
 
I worked in Project monitoring,Project Planning,Project Execution and project Initiation in different projects.
 
can i opt for the PMP certiification.do i have to need more experience to get certified in PMP.
 
I am very much confused of the total project hours (4500 hours), i mean ..do i have to be in a management role only to get PMP certified ?
 
I am very much intrested to attend PMP training and get certified.


Presenlty i am working as an ITIL Consultant.


Please clarify my queries.

Your designation need not be PM, but if you are doing managmenet work anything from Initiation to closing and if you have accumulated 4500 hours then you should be eligible.
