PMP in the current version v/s new version

I understand that the PMP version changes in July 2013. Does it really matter for a recruiting company which version a candidate is certified ?

Nope, PMP is a reputed exam and there is a recertification every 3 years, so no matter what version of PMP you have taken, as long as your certification is current and upto date, it should not matter.
