PMP Career Outlook

I'm hoping for a little career outlook advice.  I've been studying pretty hard and am hoping to take the PMP exam at the end of September (I'm filling out registration materials right now).

However, I have a recruiter calling me with some compelling IT engineering opportunities and I'm debating stopping the PMP and taking one of those.

My dilemma is that my project management experience isn't that great even though I do qualify for the exam.  What is your opinion on the job market for PMP's? I realize there are no guarantees, but do you feel there are jobs out there for someone with minimum requirements for the PMP.

Thanks for the input!

Depends on which country you are . Here in India, PMP is valued a lot. in fact many Non-PMPs may not even get an interview call. Other countries like USA also its valued.  Europe , UK there are few countries where PRINCE2 is more recognized.

So yes PMP is definitely a feather in the cap and will boost a project manager's career.

I agree.

Without a PMP, Indian headhunters/recruiters(most of who are barely graduates themselves!) won't even shortlist your profile for PM openings. But conversely, there's no guarentee that your profile would surely be shortlisted if you have a PMP.

It’s a natural phenomenon. If I am a CEO of a company I would prefer a PMP certified person because I know the PMP certified person must have studied some global PM concepts and passed PMP and such person would definitely add higher values than non PMP. I see this very scientific with literature in it.

There are few example of people who are ruling the global corporate and they are neither from MBA, Business or PMP credentials holders. The problem is we people forget a law i.e. exceptions makes the rule, and it does not apply to majority population, like all metals are solid except mercury. It does not mean that we start referring mercury as an example for a metal.

I see value add with PMP certified people and so as majority of recruiters.

According to the recent salary survey done by PMI, PMP's will make on average $14,500 more than non-PMPs.  In the US, they make an average of $105,000.
