PMP since 30th Dec 2013...Hurray!!

I have been following pmzilla since i started my preps in Sept'13. Some of the LL posted by members are very insightful. Helped me a lot to focus on what to prepare & what not to.

With all the hardwork put in for 3 months I successfully cracked the PMP on 30th Dec 2013. A memorable day!!

There are enough LL on the pmzilla for exam takers & my experience is more or less similar. In any case here are some pointers for your preparations & exam day.

1.Be driven throughout. Easier said than done. But you are the one who wants this badly & only you can drive yourself.

2.Start taking tests early. Be it small tests of 30 Qs per day, but start early. Getting the knowledge from PMBOK & Rita is one thing & preparing to be in the exam mode is a totally different ball game.

3.Make your own notes. Handwritten would be even better. These become the source of quick revision & also a confidence booster during the final days of preparation. This gave me a feeling of confidence of being there & done that so that nothing seemed new.

4.Keep a track of your test performance. Make an excel of all the tests & results. Keep coming back to the errors you have made.

5.DONT attempt Super PMP from Rita's Fasttrack. Its a confidence breaker & its unnecessary. The actual exam is not so tough.

6. Make sure to attempt the free tests on PMStudy. The closest to the real exam in terms of layout & content.

7. Eat something light just before your test.Take it easy during the exam. Take breaks. Sip water. Carry warm clothes. Prometric centers are cold.

8.Concentrate on HR Management, Risk Management,EVM Qs.These are the scoring areas of the exam.

9.By the end of the 3rd hour you will know if you are getting through the exam or not.Revisit marked Qs & Qs which you have missed.

10.Keep the faith. Keep visiting pmzilla. You cannot peprare in isolation.

Good Luck!!

Congratulations on your PMP

Hi Vish,

many congratulations on a great achievement !

I was going through the tips that you have shared, can you guide me on making notes of your own. How to go for it? I mean, we cannot learn all the inputs and outputs of each and every process starting from page 1 all the way to page 500, that would be rote learning! Isn't it?  So how to go about it? what is the best way to come up with your notes that could help us in revision and boost our confidence time to time.

would be grateful for your help

regards

Hello Red Mist

Apologies for the delayed response. I was away from the forum for a very long time. I hope you must have achieved your goal by now. If not here are few tips on the handwritten notes I made.

Make notes knowledge area wise. restrict your notes to 1 single page (both sides).
Get all key words about this area on to the page from all the sources you have read i.e. books, forums, tests etc.
Use different colours to maximize effect & interest later when you are revising.
Use interesting examples to memorize difficult concepts.

I used the notes more so to boost my confidence of having been through all the concepts & knowledge areas. At the end it boils down to how much you have understood & accumulated over the 3-4 months of preparations.

Good luck!
