PMBOK 5th edition

Hi All,

I heard that PMBOK 5th edition is in process, and I did not see anything on PMI site regarding this.

Any idea, when will it be effective from? Why I ask this is, I have started the application process online, and today i got mail regarding the payment to be done to process further. Once Payment is done and if the edition changes, should I again start preparing for 5th edition. I am bit confused here. While I will be writing a mail to PMI chapter, I request if anyone is aware of this, please advise.

Regards,

Anand KL

Anand KL Sir,

Please answer on this first. Now that you have received the confirmation from PMI, so suppose you make a payment today and then in how many days or months do you plan to take the test?

God forbid, if your application goes for auditing then PMI gives exactly 2 months from the day your application is selected for auditing. You are selected for auditing or no would be displayed the moment you make the payment.

Warmly, KK....

Dear KK,

Thanks for the reply.  I plan to take exam within 3-4 weeks from payment date. Also if you can clarify one more thing:

I understand there are different fee for member and non-members. If I opt to take membership, will the membership be with immediate effect or even does it take some time?

And thanks for the info about the audit.

Regards,

Anand KL

Hi Anand KL,

The expected arrival time for PMBOK-5 is Oct-Nov, 2013. It would make good sense of becoming a PMI (www.pmi.org) member first and then apply for payment. That would help you save some extra doughs. And you also get some interesting reading materials on pmi website, which is exclusively for members. 3-4 weeks would roughly translate into 1 month, hence, you should not think about PMBOK at all. All the Best!!! KK :) :);)

Anand,

After making the payment, it takes only a couple of hours(or probably even less than that) to get your membership ID and account activated on the PMI website.

Hope this helps.

Diba

The tentative date for PMBOK v 5 release is December 2012. As per the PMI past incidences, they give 1 year time to implement any changes in PMP question pattern from the day of official announcement. So far there is no announcement from PMI about PMBOK v 5 release date. Worst case….even if PMBOK v 5 gets official release tomorrow, you still have 1 year to give PMP exam that would be based on PMBOK v 4.

Your next query on PMI membership…
1. Rule of thumb…go for it ALWAYS because there are lots of financial benefits.
2. PMI membership costs $129, but you get $150 discount when you schedule the first exam. Straight forward you save overall $21 considering the actual exam fee for non member ($405).
3. In case you fail, the reexamination fees for PMI Members is $275. If you are not a PMI member you will have to pay $375.
Membership is from the date you pay the membership fee to 1 year.

Dear KK, Diba and Saket,

Thank you so much for your replies. These information really helps. And regarding PMBOK5, I heard it from my friend. I was bit worried as I have spent quite some effort in preparing with 4th edition.

Thanks again for the info. PMZilla rocks!!

Anand KL
