It is natural to feel jittery with the knowledge that your friend could not clear the exam (unfortunately), with preparation that seems decent enough (from what you have mentioned). But one thing that is missing in your story is the five lettered mantra - PMBOK !! I am speculating now if only your friend had read PMBOK couple of times, perhaps, it would have propelled him above the threshold to capture the PMP trophy.

Please browse through this site with some patience and you will find gems strewn all around vis-à-vis  PMP preparation.

All the best !

 Dear Sir / Madam,

Is it suffiecient to study only PMBOK. How do I go about reading it? Daily how many hrs of time do I need to allocate for it. I would really be very thankful for you if you could help me preparing the project plan for preparation of Clearing PMP as you have already gone through this stage.

Regards,

Vishwanath

Hi Vishwanath,

The very first thing is that - have patience and do not hurry. Start with good PM references books like Headfirst, Andy and Rita, you can choose one of these or more as per your discretion. Understand project management concepts from these reference books and make sure you read chapter end questions nicely. Once you are comfortable with PM concepts move to PMBOK and only PMBOK because PMP questions would be framed using PMBOK and in reality every line from PMBOK is a potential PMP questions.

Once you are done with reading books, go to mock test and take all possible tests you can. Don’t waste your time in reading which mock has bad sentences, bad english, tough, length etc. Just take mock as you keep discovering here. Variations in mock question would make you strong and versatile.

Follow these steps first and then self-evaluate if you have confident to sit for the PMP exam.

 Dear Saket,

Thank you very much for your promt reply. I shall try to go ahead with PMBOK itself.

Vishwanath

As Saket mentioned, start with Head First or RITA, get yourself comfortable with PM Concepts, atleast read Head First or RIta, 1 or 2 Times, then get into reading PM BOK.
