Passed Today on my 1st try with 3MP & 2 BP

Glad its all over now I really thought I would not passed the exam when I press the end exam with 1 minute to spare. but to my surprise I did it. Not a great score but hey a pass is a pass. I don't normally post comment on sites but this forum has been such an inspiration that I feel the need to give back. My journey all started in mid October when I applied to PMI, It took me the weekend to complete the application and a week later I was approved. My studying began with an online boot camp for the first week in November I must say, the experience wasn't pleasant as I did not comprehend the subject matter all it did was it gave me a high level overview of the PMP methodologies & exam technique I studied the PMBoK but was discouraged did not get understand the material and it all seem very overwhelming I did not comprehend the ITTO process flows flow chart. I read Rita 7 book once it was a breath of fresh air I also practice the test at the end of each chapter. I also got Rita 8 read stakeholder Management I was studying 3-4hours daily with about 8 hours on the weekend plus having a full load of project work at my Job. I took my first 200questions and scored 64% on my first try. This was from testmypm.com i got the subscription from my boot camp from ITCS. I felt discourage as I did not get the ITTO or the process flow this was during the Thanksgiving break thanks to this forum LL I knew I had to go though the PMBOK.I started my in depth studying last week covering the approx. 2 KA daily then for the last couple of days I doubled up on the KA I took more exam from Testmypm a.com and was averaging 93% on the full test but I did not memorize the ITTO or the process group chart. honestly I did not feel confident because of what read here some folks had read the PMBOK 3 times I barely read the darn thing once but I thought I knew the processes and KA I did take the free PMStudy exam and felt it was the closest to the actual exam.
Lessons Learned Read the Rita and PMBOK once if you don't have the means you do not need to multiple sudsy guide it would only confuse you especially if you don't have all the time to study PLEASE practice lots of exam questions and understand the answers. My experience of the Actual exam is that some part was difficult and some was easy I also made a grave mistake and did not Brian dump the formulary during the 15 minutes tutorial I just dived right into the exam please don't try this it cost me valuable time during the exam. All in all if I can pass then anyone can and must pass the exam on their first try its not rocket science just need to be familiar with the exam format. Lot of question on communication, quality leadership, Earn value Lot of situational questions. Contact me if you need more info thanks PMzilla and good luck You all can do This !!!!

Ashish thanks, post your questions and I do my best to answer. You have enough time to prepare and pass the test just ensure that you've studied an Exam Guide like Rita 8 & other books recommended on this site. Also Study the PMBOK !!! I believe once will suffice. And do lot of questions try also the PM math's related questions posted on this forum it will ensure you are prepared mentally for the real exam.Don't kill yourself reading multiple books study notes, forums etc. Its all about the concept the majority of the actual exam is situational they test you on a very practical terms as a Project Manager think how you will apply the methodologies and process concepts in the real world. I recommend PMStudy for the mock exams. Also the 101 formulary related exams questions it was posted on the forum very important.
Good luck

Nope its in Planning Monitoring & Control

Congratulations on passing the PMP exam! Thanks for the nice LL you have posted.

I have some quick questions, if you don't mind:

- Is Rita's book sufficient for non-PMBoK stuff like motivational, management theories,
Quality theories etc.?

- Were there many lengthy/wordy questions requiring lot of time to read
through??

- What areas were the toughest questions from? What type?

Can you please let me know?

Thanks.

Best Regards,

-KM

KM thanks Rita is more than sufficient for the non PMBok subject matter. They were a lots of wordy I would say 30-35% you just have to know the concept and comprehend what's been asked and you should have no issues answering the question I had to read the question twice to get it, there some were tricky question but lots were straight forward. Most of the formula question were difficult like communication channel, Evm ask you for SPI, CPI but you need to figure out what EV is before you can calculate the CPI etc. You need to know how to apply the concept to real life PM experience Rita and the good mock exam can help with that. This site has provided lots of the information on sample question etc.. hope this help..

Dear Friend,
Congrats and thanks for sharing LL.
