Passed PMP....1st attempt !
Hey fellow PMZilla folks,
I passed my PMP today on my 1st attempt. Felt great to see the 'Congratulations' on the exam screen...a bit of heart pounding, but worth the wait and effort !
To go through my study style for PMP, I first went through the HeadFirst which teaches you the jargon of PMP. Fortunately, I was enrolled at work for PMP course by Velociteach , where they taught the Andy Crowe PMP book. The book is good and easy to read. I also did the coursework videos in Insite Velociteach along with the Practise exams.
I read through the Rita PMP book and only skimmed through it for the differences. I solved the Rita practice exams , which were good and informational.
I did not read the PMBOK , as it looked too boring and would definitely make the PMP preparations dull and boring ! It was apprehensive at times, because everyone in PMZilla mentioned how important the PMBOK is to get through the exam.
My preparations were going through the chapters and give the practice exams on Headfirst, Rita, Andy Crowe. This would give me the revision time to go through the chapters and keep the details and loose ends in my head.
During the 2 prep week before the exam, I made sure to solve as many questions as I could from different exams, PMPforSure, PMPStudy, Scordo, Simpilearn, Oliver Lehmann,Headfirst. I would not always pass, but I would make sure to check the answers at the end and understand how it works. This made my complete prep answering all sorts of questions and refine my prep for the exam. You know what they say "Practice until you can't get it wrong!"
Closer to the exams, I started giving mock tests from Insite at Velociteach and other places. Make sure to make notes along the way, where you can take down notes and quick references to keep referring to it daily.
You definitely need to understand the inputs, processes and outputs. The ITTO is important, how you remember it, does not matter....You can memorize it or try to understand....who has to decide ? Memorize it or memory-map it.
Thanks to PMZilla for the questions, doubts answered and lessons learned from other members. It has been very helpful in my prep.
Passing my PMP now means having a good rest of the weekend and ready for the Sunday football !
Cheers.
