Passed PMP today - First Try
Hi Everyone
I passed my exam today. I had been closely following the forums, so wanted to just summarize:
- First, I would recommend to take a date for the exam. I made a mistake of studying without taking a date and this led to long study times. As soon as I took a date, I had a goal in mind and my efforts became focussed. Don't spend 6 months to a year to study for this exam. You can easily get burnt out. I was facing this issue:). A good 3 month preparation should be enough
- I got Rita's 7th edition prep system. This was really helpful as lot of the questions in Rita's software are situational. You will probably see 90% of questions to be situational. I would recommend investing in this prep system.
- Read the PMBOK guide couple of times. I used to read the chapter from Rita first and then go through the corresponding chapter in PMBOK. Once you read Rita, you can easily follow through PMBOK.
- There were a lot of questions from Risk, Quality, Communications. Make sure you go through these thoroughly
- Go through ITTOs. You don't need to memorize the, but understand how each of these fit into the corresponding processes.
- Lastly, I would recommend not taking any mock exams in the last 3 days before your actual. For the mock exams, I would recommend Rita's full length exams in their prep system and PM study(4 tests). If you are planning to buy just couple of tests from PMStudy, make sure you buy either Test 1/2 and Test 3. Test 3 actually contains situational questions, the type of questions you will see in the exam. Tests 1 and 2 contain general project management theory questions and are meant to check you weak areas
Hope this helps

Mock tests
Thanks. I just did Rita's full length and test 1 and 2 of PM Study. My scores were 76, 68 and 75 respectively. I wish I had done PM Study Test 3 as well, which is more close to the type of questions you will see in the exam. I would suggest not skipping test 3. I had not time so had to skip it.

PMP or SUper PMP
PMP. Super PMP exams are much harder. You can take them if you like, but not necessary.

I am wondering which source
I am wondering which source had the closest approach/format to the actual exam, and how many hours would you say you spent preparing before you could say you were ready?
