Passed PMP today

Hello all

Time to share the lessons learned from my end. I passed my PMP in the first try and got 4 - Proficient and 1 - moderately proficient.

The entire process of prepartion took me 3 months, i have gone through the PMBOK book from end to end 3 times and many number of times casually glancing over. I did not read any other book other than some notes here and there for org theories and stuff like that.

I did subscribe to Cornelius Fischners PM Prepcase for the 35 hours and the simulation exams with him. I was scoring an average of 85% on those exams
After my study I tried to over Rita Mulcahy but it confused me a lot. Lot of the details in the book made many assumptions, which was hard for me to understand so I stopped reading it.
I came across Kim Heldmans book and I was very impressed with his style of writing, however I did not complete it as I was running out of time.

I addressed as many sample questions as possible on the internet some of them did lead to confusion as they were old.

The exam itself turned out to be much easier than what I had imagined. The questions were very clear in what they were expecting, there were no inbuilt assumptions to be made. I finished answering all the questions in about two and a half hours and spent the rest of the time reviewing the answers
Overall it was a good experience as i have learnt a lot during this process.

Thanks a lot to this forum for helping me out with some of the concepts.

Congrats Shantak

Can you please elaborate on what type of questions were on the actual exams. Since you just gave the exam, it would be still fresh in your mind.

Do you know of any particular tests online or out there which is similar to actual exam?

Were the exam questions wordy or simple?

Where there many ITTO questions on the exam?

Where the questions straightforward?

Please help with your experience on exam questions as i have exam in few days

Thanks for your help in advance.

bpatel,

I would say most of the questions that I got in the exam were pretty straightforward. I did not get a lot of lenghty paragraphs as most of them have mentioned here. Most of the questions were 4-5 lines long.

There were some ITTO questions, they were more like, asking multiple ITTOs, as an example

Which of the following are the ITTOs of process A ?

A) business case, sow, contract

b) business case, resource calendar, risk register

c) resource calendar, opa updates, status reports

You got the gist, they were asking multiple ITTOs in the same question and they were straight forward.

I got a couple of questions on Org Theories and a couple on Quality theories.

I got quite a few questions on Conflict resolution techniques, although the project was in different stages.

Overall as I said in my first post, the sample questions that I have gone through were much difficult than the real exam.

I got a few questions on math, some of them were very complicated, like they gave a network diagram with dependencies (SS,FF,SF..) and then resource leveling was applied on that, so what is the newest path.

Couple of questions on project selection methods.

Some of the questions were like, they explain a scenario and ask you which process are you performing now.

Hope this helps

Congratulations Shantak.

You mean Quality Theory as in?

Hi,

First of all, congratulations on ur PMP.

I have my exam next week and need help in Mathematical questions.

How did u prepare for these kind of math questions where "a network diagram with dependencies (SS,FF,SF..) and then resource leveling was applied on that, so what is the newest path. " as you mentioned.

Seriously I did not expect these kind of questions and neither did i prepare for any of these kinds. I did apply the logic possible on the network and made wild guess, i dont know if the answers were correct or not. But most of the network diagram related questions did have dependencies, so it took me some time more than usual to figure out the answer. Maybe those questions were experimenta, i was not sure.

In regard to the Quality theories, the questions were direct and were asking who proposed the theory?

 Congrats man!.

  Dear Friend,

Congrats and thanks for sharing LL.
