Passed the PMP - Lessons Learned
Dear All,
Thanks God I passed the PMP exam on 10 March 2011. I would like to share my lessons learned with you:
- The exam mainly tests understanding and knowledge, rather than memorization. However, memorizing KEY inputs, tools and techniques, and outputs helps. If well understood, you can select the correct answer by exclusion (for questions related to the ITTOs).
- After reading the question and before reading the 4 answers, I decide in my mind what should be the proper answer (like what should be done, specially in situational questions). Reading the answers afterward will be easier, and you will be more confident in selecting the correct answer.
- Reading PMBOK twice is very important. Second time will be much faster, like skimming, but stopping at the special terms and subjects (like quality charts, contents of risk register,...).
- Earned Value equations are very important, and needs full memorization.
- I used pmzilla.com, which has good source for discussing some questions.
- I used pmstudy.com, which provides a full free 200 questions mockup test. It is important to track the time, and know wehn to take breaks. At certain point, while answering the questions, you feel like your brain stopped working. At this point, STOP. I took 3 breaks in the exam, nearly 5 minutes each, and completed the whole exam in 3 hours 10 minutes nearly.
- There are certain sites on the net which provides mockup questions.
http://www.oliverlehmann.com/pmp-self-test/75-free-questions.htm
http://www.examcentral.net/pmp/pmp-exam-questions
http://www.techfaq360.com/pmpmockexamstart.jsp
Some of these sites requires free registration.
- IMPORTANT: if the first few questions are tough, do not let this turn you down. Remember that the exam is 200 questions, and the difficulty distribuation is distributed random.
At the end, I wish you all goodluck,
Sherif Fam
