Passed PMP, lesson learnt

Hello Everyone,

I passed pmp yesterday with 1p and 4mp. I was watching this forum since couple of months and hence want to write my lesson learnt here for others as I did read all lesson learn that was posted since I am watching this forum and those lesson learn helped me to plan and choose pmp materials. I would like to thank pmzilla for creating such a open pmp forum.

My total preparation was about 3-4 months where I took like 10-12 days of complete leave from my company to prepare better. Generally I gave like 2 hours on working day and about 5-6 hours on holidays.

The first two months I concentrated more on reading books i.e. pmbok, rita and kim. At the same time I practiced rita fast track and took its questions like learning and not like practice exam. I did not read chapters in sequence rather I read by process group i.e. all initiation topics from each book and then practiced all initiation questions from fast track and checked answers for each question the same time while I attempted each. I guess this technique worked for me.

I also read these materials available from pmzilla:

  • PMP Notes - Rajesh Nair

  • Memorizing Inputs Tools and Outputs - updated for PMBoK 4th Editon

  • Memory Aids for PMP Exam

I do not have words for these, they are brilliant.

In the last month, I practiced all possible tests from internet I could get for free. Just 10 days before I also purchased pmpforsure to practice more questions, they have marvelous question collections. Among the free one I used pmstudy, simplilearn, oliver, headfirst, tutorialpoint, pmtests, examcentral, skillsign etc.

I did not find pmp exam that different and tough as I hear from some people, it was ok-ok. After attempting about 50 question itself, I got confidence that I would pass. About 15 questions were numerical formula based and mostly from eac/bac, communication channels, sv, pert (3-4) etc. Many question were from quality assurance/control, risk planning and control charts.

I finished exam 10 minutes before the 4 hour time and did not revise. I took 2 breaks in between of 5 minutes. I am happy today, I passed pmp!

Once again thanks pmzilla and people here for posting all latest information about pmp and also initiating topics for pmp discussion. I wish everyone all the best.
