Passed PMP- 3P, 2MP

I have cleared the PMP examination on September 3rd. My assessment is that PMP examination is not that tough. A bit hyed- but that’s ok I guess! How I am coming to this conclusion?  Because I was able to clear PMP with 12 days of rigorous study. During these 12 days (from August 22nd), I studied PMBOK many times; I guess 7 to 8 passes for each chapter, followed by the sample questions from Head First. After completing and understanding individual chapter from PMBOK, I took the sample questions from Headfirst and analysed my responses. That’s all I did. And I did not get chance to take any online test or any full length test. Monday morning, Sep 3rd, I went to Prometric Center Bangalore and took the test. I passed with 3P and 2MP. And I am not complaining.

What I have learned:

1.

PMBOK is important.  Concepts and tools in that are priceless not only for passing the exam but also for our life as a project manager. Yes it is a bit boring. But once you understand the flow, it is just awesome.

2.

Believe in yourself.  There are guys who just studied 7 days and were able to clear it.

3.

It is not necessary to go for all the questions available on the net. Instead, you may devote that time to one more pass of PMBOK.

4.

There are lots of question on EVM and Network Diagram. Risk, Quality and Procurement chapters are important.

5.

Forming, Storming, Norming etc., you have to understand these.

6.

Conflict Resolution? Why do you think PMP will certify you if you don’t know when to apply what techniques?

7.

Look at the choices. You can very easily eliminate the wrong choices.

8.

Before the D-Day, work out a bit or do whatever you like. Congratulate and thank yourself that you have put so much time on PMP exam. I went to Snap Fitness in the evening, ran 3 kms on treadmill, picked up a Beer Can on my way back home (Not recommended though!).

Oh yes, during these 12 days, each day I visited pmzilla  to read PMP examination experiences from others.  You guys are just awesome! And Rajesh Nair and Abhishek,  Sirs- hats off to you!

Congratulations on your success with preparation duration similar to mine. But the similarity, I should say, ends there. I had a very tough 4 hours and could only muster 2P and 3MP. I would like to think that multiple sets of questions are circulating at any point of time and each one can not be compared. Also, there is no way we can compare, but only speculate. I am sure two people with same level of knowledge and preparation, if they were to sit at the same prometric center and take the exam on the same date and time, will have a vastly different experience to share.

I took the exam in Europe and a gentleman who also passed along with me told me that he had to leave out few questions for want of time.

Posts such as yours (as well as mine - pardon my bragging here) will give tremendous confidence to folks who have put in consistent, but reasonably moderate amount of preparation for 2-3 months. They will derive confidence with the thought that if folks could clear PMP with 1-2 weeks of intense preparation, they could as well, with their consistent and slightly drawn out preparation. But there could be those, with out much experience or intensity, do a shallow, few weeks of study and not clear the exam.

Of course all our LLs are very personal and applies to ourselves alone. But what is the default take from many of the PMP pass story is this : Consistency in preparation and faith in PMBOK, which you displayed in the intense 2 weeks of study.

Congratulations once again !!!

Thank you . And  congratulation to you too!!

Congratulations on you PMP

Hi Ashish,

I am glad to see your experience. I was waiting for someone to comment who only read PMBOK. You gave me confidence.

Pankaj

Congratulations and welcome to PMP gang, good to know that our notes were useful. Good luck to new role.
