Passed PMP -3/15 - 3 Weeks Prep

 Hi Everyone,

I am PMP certified as of a couple of hours ago. I have been a silent lurker for the past month or so and wanted to take this chance to articulate my experience with the exam.

Flashback - 2 yrs ago - wanted to take the PMP. Paid for the exam - cancelled it. I just did not have the time or focus to get certified - plus I was horrified by what I had heard abt the exam.

So finally, decided that it was high time - scheduled the exam in February. At this point, I'd never read any PMP material. I started PMBOK but could not get past the first chapter - it was super dry. I started with Rita - Could not get past taht either - so decided to start with Risk Management Chaper in RIta.... I read Rita - 1 chapter a day for about 10 days. I did all the end of the chapter tests..was scoring around 65 to 70%. I took the PMSTudy free 200 questions exam last Thursday - scored 64%. I was feeling TERRIBLE! I knew I was no where near prepared. So I buckled down and all I did for the past 6 days -

1. Read PMBOK

2. Skimmed Rita corresponding chapter

3. Read Rajesh Nair/Chowdhary notes ( GUYS - THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK You) the notes were super helpful.

That is it! I was feeling better but very nervous as I did not get time to take another full test.

Now, as far as the exam is concerned - Lots of process questions. I never could for the life of me memorize any ITTO, so was very nervous - but really, its the understanding that counts. I got a lot of questions on risk, earned value managment, Critical paths, and Quality. Please have page 43 of PMBOK etched into your mind. I also got a lot of questions on Change Control.

I finished the exam in under 3 hours - spent the next 45 mins double checking.

I passed with Proficient in everything but Closing. I got Medium Proficient in Closing.

Net - Net, PMP is a hard exam but not as hard as people make it out to be. Just buckle up, read the PMBOK and you should be good. I also wanted to say - without Rita's book, I would not have understood the processes that well. Thanks to the late Rita!

All the best for your exams!

So, actually Ritika you passed the exam in 11 days since you had spent 10 days on Risk and most of the questions were from Quality, PIChange contro, EV, CPM et al. Good and congrats. You got P in 4 and MP in 1. Great show!!!

My question, would you suggest apirants to study for as less than 3-4 weeks abd clear the exam? Would you. I am already 1 month old (my 2nd attempt BTW) and I feel I am not even 20 percent done. What should I do Ritika, can I have suggestions. Reading your LLs has, for sure, made me a lesser man. Congrtas once again!!!!

Thanks... I did get a number of questions in Risk as well. I cannot say what will work for everyone but what I feel is prolonged preparation is not advisable. Make a plan of 4 weeks at most and just do it. I wish I had taken one more PMSTUDY test - I did not have enough time. Dont panic and worry about a lot of tests - I feel a couple is enough.

Read Rita and the corresponding PMBOK chapter - do her chapter tests. Revise every qn that you did wrong and understand the reasoning behind it. I used the Rajesh Nair's notes as a guide... the last few days - every night I skimmed through at least one or two process areas so I get the terminology in my mind....

Other than that, don't panic - don't delay. All the very best.

Hi Ritika PMP ;),

Can you please tell me where I can get the Rajesh Nair's notes? I am also preparing for the same.

Thanks
