Passed PMP on 28th April. 5P. Lessons Learned

Hi everyone ¡¡

I just wanted to share with all you that i passed my exam on the 28, with 5 Proficients. I'm really really happy.

Second i wand to thank all the people in the forum for all the things i've learnt. This forum was a great source in my study plan.

And last i would like to give back something to the forum, so here they're my lessons learned. (i will skip some of the most common tips)

1) Read PMBOK + Rita's Prep 2 times each. Second time just skimming through.

2) Solved more than 3000 questions.

3) I wrote every question i got wrong in an excel document and study this list from time to time, to avoid making the same mistake again.

4) I marked every question wrong with the knowledg area which was in. That allowed me to keep a track of how many mistakes i was making in each area.

5) I made sure i Understand why i got a questiong wrong. This is very important. The exam is not about memorizing but reasoning.

6) I keep a record of my scores with graphs in an excel document. That allowed me to see when my scores went "under control" between two limits.

7) ASK questions in this forum

8) More Important SOLVE questions in this forum. This won't only help other people, but yourself. When you explain something, you won't forget it. Even if your answer is not accurate that will allow other people to participate and help you.

9) I did a braindump in the exam, but didn't use it. :)

10) Avoid memorizing in general, but memorize this: Rita's planning group procees order, and the process group chart. It will assit you in solving questions about "what should you do next.."

11) Personal strategy for reviewing questions. When i did full mock exams (200q), or in the exam ; i took 3 hours or so to answer all the questions, and left 1 hour to review questions. My approach was to answer quickly the first time (MEANING not satying more than 1minute in one questions, BUT staying focused on each answer). I come up in the end with 50-60 questions to review. Each question i marked for review, i wrote its number in paper. Then, if i was very unsure of the answer i wrote the number inside a square; if a was medium confident in the answer i wrote the number inside a circle, and if i was almost sure of the answer just wrote the number. Then when i started to review i got the squares firts, then the circles...   A lot of questions you're stuck in first place, then you can see clearly the answer when you review.

Well and i think that's all. I would be glad ton answer any questions here or by email, feel free to contact me.

Here it is a way to memorize all the 47 processes.

Here it is a game to practice with Rita's order in planning group and also to set each procces in the right group.

Good luck ;-)

interservicio - thanks!

Does the real exam questions are similar to Oliver Lehman's 175 or 75 questions?

admin's picture

I dont think real exam is similar to Oliver. but the questions are good for preparation.

I think they're quite similar in difficulty, but i found those in the exam more "direct".

I thought i would find more distracters in the questions, but i didnt.

Congrats.
How long it took for preparation without break ?

-Karthik

i would say about 300 hours (study+tests).

Probably i could have passed with less, but i wanted to be 100% sure

Good luck ¡

Congrats!

Could you please share the sources of 3000 questions you practised? Have you purchased any online mock exams like PM study? Did you attend any class room trainigs?

Thanks

Hi¡

I didnt take any courses, just a lot of free mock exams.

I posted some sources in the other reply. Anyway i found most of them just googling for "free pmp exams" or "pmp mock exams".

My advise, do a lot of the free's and then buy one good for the end.

Can you pls share some of  the tests you took with scores for some of us to benchmark against your..

Sure, here're some of my scores:

Please note that i did a lot of mocks in my nativa language (spanish), so probably you won't recognice some of the sources.

There is something weird with the forum. If you cant' see the data at the very right of the web, i can email it.

Good luck
