Passed PMP (11-06-11 - First Attempt)
Hi All,
Before I jump to lessons learnt part, let me first do what most of us do at the end.....Vote of Thanks!!!
Thanks to my family (my wife & children) for providing support and boosting my morale through out this effort of mine. Thanks to my friends (Gaurav, PMP) for proving me valuable insights whenever required.
And thanks to this great forum...PMZILLA for all the info compiled at sigle location. This is a great place to be if you are preapring for PMP. I would rather urge members to be associated with PMZILLA even after they earn their PMP. Last but not the least to Mr. Rajesh Nair for his greatly compiled notes.
Now the lessons learnt part:
Material Referenced (In no prefrential order):
1. PMBOK (Mother of all Prep Books) - If you read this in-out you don't need any other supporting book. Unless you really don't understand the language PMBOK addresses. Went through it multiple times.
2. Andy Crowe - Good simplified way to explain PM concepts. Browsed thru once.
3. PMRoadtrip - Great website and good way to explain PM concepts. Went thru it for only selected topics.
4. Rita M. - Nice book if you are new to Project Managment. Only draw back, lot of theory & ITTO not explained nicely. Read it in parts but did every chapter end questions.
4. PMStudy Paid Test Papers - As per my experience, a pre-requisite and mandatory before you attempt PMP real exam. Good and realistic questions that will give your preparation an added edge.
5. Exam Central - A very good site providing KA wise & Process Group wise free exam questions. Contains quality questions and enough to practice (more than 1000 Q's)
About Exam:
Very straight forward questions. No lengthy questions. Concept based (that is why PMBOK is mandatory). FInished my exam in 3 hrs with one 3 min break.
My Advice to Exam takers:
No need to panic thinking about the complexity & difficulty level of the exam. Most people fear PMP Exam just becoz a great amount of exam fees is involved. Once you decide to appear and pay your fees, just realx and try to grasp PM concepts and try to relate those to your everyday work.
Thanks,
Pawan
