Passed my PMP 22nd January.. My experiences

Hey Guys,

What can I say! all the effort and it paid off!.Scored 4P  in other processes and 1 MP in Planning. I have to thank PMzilla and our community, Lessons learnt posts were my inspiration to study harder and practice harder.Dont think I can match up to some of the guys here but it made sure I should not slack if wanted to pass this exam.

I am basically quite lazy, before the final date. I think I postponed my exam around 4 times.I booked 6-7 months back, Kept postponing till I decided enough was enough and had to complete.

I read Rita's book before I took up the PMBOK guide, which in hindsight was not a great idea.My score(Chapter tests) were poor i would get around 50-55% righ

Personally Head First PMP was what made the difference. It made me understand the concepts clearly. This is when i started preparing seriously around 2 months before the exam. Then started parallely reading the PMBOK Guide. Yes Headfirst is light on content but it is a good starter book.

When I started going through Rita's book again , Did not follow closely but just checking if anything extra is there it made sense. The issue with Rita's is that it does not follow the Inputs or Outputs process strictly so it may get confusing but nevertheless an essential read for the exam it contains stuff that is not highlighted in the PMBOK guide but is tested on the exam.

My Material

1) Head First PMP

2) PMBOK Guide

3) Rita's Guide.

4) 400 Qns Sean whitetaker.

5) Ofcourse the muliple free question resources available on the internet.

One funny thing that happend was, the day before the exam i decided i should attempt a few questions from Headfirst book. Never did it as I did not have the time. So maybe I thought i take up 50 or so. I got many wrong. Suddenly all my built up confidence was shattered. I was scared like crazy. My humble opinion it is best if your last mock tests 3 days before the exam. Final day just revise. Practice a couple of EVM and Critical Path sums just to keep it going.

Learn the concept and flows well. If you see the diagramatic flows it is not actually too hard. Formulas should be back of your hand. I have a really poor memory. So everyday I used to write down formulas on a sheet of paper it was my "almost brain dump"

Remember the 47 processes and their order. ITTOs good to know dont need to memorize, be familiar with them..

Take MOCK exams, Very important!

Good luck with your preparation.

Excuse the grammar and sentence formation. Hope it made sense ...

Peace..!
