Passed 1st Attempt

Hi,

I just have been through 2 months tough process of taking this certification as I fast tracking it with some other part time jobs at the same time. I really give up and wanted to drop this exam 1 month before and waiting for 4th edition. PMP really is not easy exam and I was lucky as the failing rate as I know is approximately about 40% for first attempt. I even sick during the exam and I unable to reschedule as Prometrics needs at least 48 hours notice. It was really killing me inside that exam room for almost 5 hours.

The most important lesson learn about this PMP is you really have to know in depth of the 44 processes especially the core knowledge area. Example, scope planning, scope definition, all integration process, procurement up to closing. Those processes are iterative.

Memorizing all input/output/tool will be useful but not the key. It will help to eliminate the some incorrect choices from the available options. Example, create WBS or decomposition never appear in integration planning during beginning of the project. Those questions will try to trick you with 2 very close answers and that is you really need in depth of the knowledge area.

Below are some of the basic processes flows when Project Manager facing issue that could help you to handle most of the tricky ques. They will play around with the wording, so good luck!

1)      Always evaluate the probability and impact of the issue first “YOURSELF!”

2)      Analyst and find any possible alternative solution for the issue

3)      Talk and review with INTERNAL key people first like your project sponsor, stakeholder, ICC

4)      Then only your talk to EXTERNAL people like customer

5)      Get approval from ICC or whatever authorize party for the recommended action

6)      Implement the solution!

7)      Monitor the solution!

Thank you,

Wayne
