PASS PMP with 5P on 23.04.2015
I am very delight to pass PMP with 5P yesterday. Thanks PM Zilla, this forum is a valuable asset for all PMP taker.
A brief lesson learnt is as below, I spent more than 4 months for the exam.
1. Reading Material
I read Rita 3 time, PMBOK 1 time
Rita provide a very logical and clear picture for all process. I'm not kidding , playing the rita process chart game weekly could let you get at least ~20% questions correctly and easily, since ~20-40 questions of PMP question will ask something like: "What to do now, what to do next, what is the immediate action, what is the best action......", By playing the chart game , please ask yourself if you really understand the process sequence. If you not sure, go to the particular chapter, you could find the answer. Repart it every week. Rita is the only material which make me feel comfortable and reasonable for the process interaction. Besides, I did the exercise in Rita (I'm already lazy, in my 2nd time reading only) in EVERY section and try not go straight forward to the answer, it helps a lot.
If you only want to get a pass, you should also read PMBOK for once and focus on those process chart. But if you would like to get a proficient result, please go in detail, especially the input and output section which Rita may not cover, you have to understand why such "Input" is required in the process, and how the "tool" can help to generate the "output", PMBOK is really boring, but also, it's the only material explain the interaction in detail (since PMBOK is not exam oriented)
2. Mock Exam
For me, I did around 2000 questions. After completed and marked for the mock exam, I usually review ALL questions but not just read the explanation of incorrect question (Of course, focus more on the incorrect questions) You have to understand why you get the answer CORRECTLY as well.
My result from mock exam ranging from 58%-85%. Many blogger said that if you consistantly score >80% of mock exam and you should able to pass, it's a very good benchmarking but I would think the target is too high. I think averagely 70% is okay provided that you really understand why you go right/wrong. I will share some of the mock exam I did later.
3. Forum / Online Resource
When you get confuse with the process, just google it!!For example, work performance information vs work performance report, attribute sampling vs variable sampling, project scope statement vs project statment of work, etc. Don't overlook the importance for internet searching, I clear up much of concept during the online research. But be reminded to verifiy the answer from web with PMBOK, this verification process will definately strengthen your understanding.
Pens down, time to go out and celebrate with friends. ^^
I am happy to share more with All PM Zillaer, let me know if you would like to know more about my journey.

Hey there..
First of all Many congratulations for clearing the PMP with 5P:-) and thank you for sharing your learning..I am also preparing for the exam and targeting to give the exam on 21-July..
I have read Rota twice..PMBOK twice(Skim-Because its horribly boring:-() and Head first I am studing twice now(I love the book and it help me to understand the concept also).
I was following a process as reading one chapter from Head first 3rd edition and one chapter from PMBOK 5 but the one of my PMP friend suggested If I am not getting anything from PMBOK(I study it but then forget also) then I should stick to the book i understand..so now i decided to stick to Head first.Do you think its agood Idea?
I am planning to give mocks from 1st May till 15-July..and then revision once again before the exam.
Till now I am scoring abt 67-72%(Given 2-3 mocks only).
I am still struggling with ITTOs,Can you please suggest me..How should i follow the strategy for study:-( and remembering ITTOs.
Thanks in advance..Nisha..

Try and understand ITTO's
Hi Nisha,
//I am still struggling with ITTOs,Can you please suggest me..How should i follow the strategy for study:-( and remembering ITTOs.//
My strategy for ITTOs
Try and understand ITTO's. If you understand the correct meaning then it will be very easy. dont worry if you dont get it right. There will be very less questions regarding ITTO's.
How I study ITTO's .... and output of planning process will be an input to other process in the same knowledge area... or planning process of other knowledge areas.
Every estimate process will have estimating(bottom up(most common), analogous or parametric) as tools and technique.
All control process will have change requests as outputs.
Expert judgement/meetings will be input to all of the planning processes.
Reserve analysis( adding buffer) will be a tool and technique for estimate, control processes(time, cost, risk)etc.
you can start relating the ITTO's like this and you will understand the flow easily. it comes by practice or understanding the meaning of every ITTO clearly.
Hope the above inputs are of some help in your preparation.
