CAPM Versus PMP

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the field of Project Management and have around 2 years of experience in the same.

However I havent been involved in all aspects of PM and looking at CAPM certification right now.

I dont meet the prerequisite for 4500 hours of PM experience for PMP Certification and choose CAPM instead.

I would like to know if CAPM is a value add for someone who would like to pursue a career in Project Management? Is it better to wait until I gain the sufficient experience(4500 hours) and give the PMP instead of giving the CAPM right now.

Any guidance and inputs around this would be highyl valued. Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Sahithi

  • Study material for CAPM and PMP is same. So, if you prepare for CAPM, then indirectly, you are preparing for PMP too.

  • All the mock tests are same for both the exam.

  • Difference: Actual exam of CAPM is easier than PMP.

  • CAPM is a test of your memory and PMP is a test of your in-depth knowledge.

Some time back, I was in a similar situation. So, I opted for CAPM first. By the time, I cleared CAPM, I had 2 things with me:-

  • CAPM Certificate which proves that I have basic knowledge of project management.

  • Strong Foundation for PMP preparation
