You are a project manager and you are in the process to confirm  human resource availability and obtanining the team necessary to complete project assignments.Where will you look for the information on the number of people needed for the project?

A)Project organization charts under project management plan

B)Staffing management plan under project management plan

C) Organizational structure under enterprise environmental factors

D)Staffing management plan under Human Resource plan

Answer is given as A

Can someone explain what is the difference between option B and D i.e., Staffing management plan under project management plan and Staffing management plan under Human Resource plan

  • Staffing Management Plan comes under Human Resource Plan which inturn comes under Project Management Plan.

  • Project organization charts comes under Human Resource Plan which inturn comes under Project Management Plan.

  • PMBOK Page 227 - Line 1 : "Project organization charts indicating the number of people needed for the project"

 Yes, that is understood. My question is , instead of the above problem for which the answer was project organization charts, if there is a problem in the exam for which answer would be staffing management plan and if both options are given i.e., staffing management plan under HR plan and staffing management plan under project management plan, what to choose?

Is there any thin line of difference between the 2? I could not find anything except for one is under Develop HR plan and other is under Acquire Project Team

Always go for the more specific one.


For example if they have 2 options like this (very rare, but let's say hypotheotically)


A. Staffing management plan under human resource plan 


B. Staffing management plan under project management plan


I would go for A


But again, PMI will be providing non-overlapping options for you to chose from, so think straight and move on.

Project organizational chart : graphical chart depicting team members and their roles.

Staffing Management plan (a document): part of a larger HR mgt plan; Tells u about the duration each individual will be needed; training needs; team building strategies; plans for recognition & rewards etc.

Pls read Pg223 for more details.

I think - incorrect options , are generally  written by authors , incorrectly /unlogically/carelessly .

and it is better way ( good for test taker) to eliminate them .

you should take it in that sense.
