Passed PMP today

Hi All,

I have cleared PMP today. Glad that I cleared with 3 Ps and 2 MP(E,C).

About the exam:

The questions were well thought out, neither easy not difficult. Had all types of questions(easy, medium, tough). Had more numerical questions around 15-20 - Network diagram, Cost, EV, Risk related numeric questions and many situational questions. No numeric from contract. I took around 3 hrs to complete 1st pass and used the remaining time for review.

My preparation:

1. I became a member of PMI in Dec end and scheduled the exam for today, thinking that I can change later.

2. Went through Rita Mulcahy(2 times)/PMBOK(2 times) and IIPM materials and took another IIPM test. Here I passed - 70+.

3. Again gone through Rita/PMBOK. Took test in Rita Fasttrack. Scored 73%

 4. Went through Harald Kerzner, Rita, Kim Heldmann and took again a test in IIPM, where I passed 70+. From then on I have been scoring 70-80 in the IIPM CD tests. Qns get repeated after 5 or 6 tests.

5. Then on Jan 16th or so I was unsure if I am prepared for the exam today and for assessing myself I took the free exam from PMStudy and scored 76%. So I confirmed to go ahead with the date given the 1 month time I had for studying.

6. For the last 1 month I had been reading the various books mentioned above and gave several mock tests:

Christopher Scordo - 1-9, 13-18 - scored 70-80 in all

Kim Heldmann Assessment test - 51/70

IIPM Mock - 8 tests score 70-80

Went through chapter end questions in Kim Heldmann and Harald Kerzner

Took online free exams : Oliver 75 - 74/75

Oliver 175 - 138/175

Rita Super PMP - 72.5%

Farndale's guide - 196/262

PM Free simulator - 3 tests of 30 q- score 70-85%

PMP For Sure 100 q free - 69%

PMZilla 30 qn - 20/30

Brainbok 50 Q - 74 and 79%

Anbari PMBOK questions just before exam to review PMBOK guide

I liked the PMP for sure as they are slightly harder and price is affordable - Rs.1500 so I purchased the 10 test pack. I scored around 70+ in their tests. They are tough in evaluation and you get a BP if u score less than 61% in any process group. However I felt the question standard was good for their price.

Till before exam I kept going through Rita/Kim Heldmann/PMBOK/Abishek's version of Rajesh Nair notes(In PMZilla, contains much info from various sources condensed in one place)/Rajesh Thallam notes(Mainly as PMBOK format, but contains extra info) along with questions from Scordo and PMP for Sure. Going through and mentally visualizing PMBOK data flow diagram for each process will be helpful in remembering the I/O of many processes.

Regarding the books my comments:

PMBOK - Good to know it line by line as many questions come from here

Rita - Has extra information, but takes time to go through

Kim Heldmann - Covers in a different order, but her language is easy to understand. helpful to read from this to understand new concepts

PMZilla is a good site to know about lessons learnt about new PMP members passing the exam and any such info.

Hope I covered all required info. The exam is not tough provided we show dedicated and systematic preparation.

All the best in your preparation !! Hope you will find my tips useful.

Regards,
Krishna
