Choosing between PMP & Agile
Hi,
Just wanted some reference as to what thought process to use while choosing a particular methodology for a new project. To give some background I took an Agile Expert class from scrumstudy.com. the class was great no doubt but i had an after thought which wasnt satisfactorily answered. The question is this, while choosing a particular methodology for a new project does the uncertainity of the project define the process (i.e greater uncertinity -> Agile, Lower uncertainity -> waterfall) or does the approach (i.e. top down or bottom up) have a bearing as well?

Both. If a project is
Both.
If a project is expected to have very high rates of change(uncertainty), we go for Agile. Typically knowledge worker projects, like the ones we have in IT, Management Consulting and R&D, tend to fall in this category. The work is mostly undefined at the start and thus a command and control/top down approach doesn't work that well.
