Cleared PMP on 25-Aug-2011

 All,

I have cleared PMP exam on 25-Aug-2011. It was nice experience to prepare and attend PMP exam. Here are the methods that I followed to complete this journey.

1. Became member of PMI in Mar-2011

2. Started preparing for PMP exam using Head First PMP by O'reiley and completed entire book in a month perriod from mid of jun-11 to mid of jul-11

3. Started preparing PMBOK material for three weeks period, found easy to learn PMBOK contents after completion of Head first PMP initially and it took me three weeks period

4. Gone through How to Pass PMP in first try by Andy Crow, now it was very much easy and able to do fasttrack reading

5. In all the above cases, I took notes on contents whenever I found something tough to re-collect and important

6. In last two weeks, I started attending mock exams in www.pmstudy.com, www.pmzilla.com, www.oliverlehmann.com. I was able to take 65% to 70% ranges in all these exams; I found contents are worth attending to build and enhance our confidence; Also gone through Rajesh Nair PMP excel

7. Then I attended paper based exam using Head First PMP and Andy Crow book question bank. I found them easier than exams from step 6.

8. In step 6 & 7, after completing the exams, I reviewed the answer and for each wrong answer I took notes and enhanced my notes contents

9. Last day, I just gone through entire PMBOK contents overview and my notes

I found exam was moderate and I was able to understand what exactly asked and able to select right answer. I feel through understanding in PMBOK contents make our job easier in exam. I spent more time to read question and each choice carefully to avoid mistakes. Exam time was sufficient for me and it took almost 4 hours (was able to complete exam just 5 minutes before)

I was reading pmzilla quite some time. Thanks for moderator, members and everyone support for your help. If you need any specific question on my exam experience, please raise, I will be more than happy to respond.

Thanks,

Chandrasekaran

2. How many formula questions did you get?

3. How many questions on PTM and PCostM?

Best,

Vishal

Vishal,

Here are the details:

1. Planning, Executing and M&C - Proficient

Initiating, Closing and Social Responsibilities - Moderate Proficient

2. Around 20 questions were formula based

3. 30 to 35 questions were in TM & CM

Thanks,

Chandrasekaran

30-35 questions in PCM-PTM calls curtain for me.

These are my two V V V weak areas and now I know I am a goner.

If it was not 30.8, for sure I would have dithered, however, due to the recent changes in the way examination question would feature, I am, sadly, not left with many choice but to go and face the music :(
