I am now a PMP!
Hello Everyone,
Firstly, I would like to thank all the forum contributors, whose posts helped me tremendously in my PMP preparation. I actually started studying in October 2010, but had to drop my plans and move to a new city due to a new job offer. I started my preparation again towards the end of December 2010, and rescheduled my exam twice, to finally appear for it during the first week of February 2011. Frankly speaking, I just used Rita Mulcahy's book, and did not refer to anything else. I must have read the book twice, and revisited critical topics multiple times during my preparation. I went through the end of the chapter problems in Rita's book at least 3 times. I took 2 full length mock exams: PM study free (73.71%) and Lehman 175 (78.75%). I also went through Lehman's 75 questions, and a few other short quizzes available on the internet for free. Chowdhary's excel spreadsheet is really awesome. It really helped me summarize things towards the end and revise all the content within a short period. I also used the ITTOs spreadsheet, which I feel is the most important thing available here. I think that sheet alone must have helped me answer at least 25-30 questions, by assisting me in understanding the inputs, tools and techniques, and the outputs of each process. No need to memorize it, but just go through it every once in a while, and try to remember how all the processes are interlinked.
As far as the exam is concerned, it is not extremely difficult, but somewhat tough. The real problem is when you think that two options out of the given choices are the correct answer. This will happen quite often (approximately 30-40 times). Towards the end, I decided not to go against my gut feeling and change the answers I had marked for review. I completed the exam in 3 hours 15 mins, with a 5 min break. As it has been mentioned so many times on this forum, the wait after you hit the end exam button is extremely agonizing. I was really anxious, and hurriedly completed the survey towards the end. Finally, I saw the words "Congratulations" on the screen, which indicated that I had passed. Now, I can proudly call myself a PMP. Glad to have my evenings and weekends to myself again.
Regards,
Abby
