PM Experience in PMP Application

Hello Experts,

I am a PMP aspirant and have total of 10 years exp in IT industry, having worked for 3 IT companies in the Top 5 ranking. For past 5 years I am in the role of Project Lead/Team Lead/Technical Lead. As most ppl in IT industry are aware that its not easy to get a leap to PM band from technical role, I have started preparing for PMP and am almost 90% done with preparation with good scores in practise tests.

In my previous projects, I have however managed projects in role of Team lead- preparing PM Plan, Quality Plan, Quality Audits, Project monthly status reports, Review of deliverables, Appraisals of team, have been in client facing role as Project coordinator, CR estimates, Functional Requirement gathering et all. But I do not have any Project manager experience.

In my current Organisation, however my role is purely technical (SME and Consultant) and I am keen in shifting from Technical role to management side. Even my previous organisation mentors have suggested that I am more suitable for a Delivery side role than Tech role based on the personality skills I possess. I am in a fix in describing the Experience required in my PMP application form. Given my experience please suggest if I am eligible for applying. I have gone through some of the Audit postings where Project management exp has to be certified by current manager. My current manager will never do that as I am not playing any PM/PL role, its purely technical role. Is it possible to give reference of any colleague at same level to certify my experience based on my past projects in previous organisation.

Applogies for the long post.

Please guide me through the process of application. I am too stressed. But am too keen in taking my career to a different level with this certification. So experts please please take some time in answering my queries.

Thanks a lot

Check if you have done 4500 hours of management related work, especially on Project management related actvities. It can be doing same activity for 4500 hours does not matter. PMI does not say you need to have experience in all phases of project lifecycle.
