Does anyone know the difference between PMO kinds??

Hallo everybody,

I have real difficulties to understand the differences between the 3 kinds of PMO: supporting, controlling and directive.

The only kind I could understand is the supporting kind, because we apply it in the company where I work.

Could anybody please clarify the directive and controlling kinds with examples? Is not for example the directive kind very similar to program management?

Many thanks in advance!

Best regards

Controlling - There will be cases when the project team will need approval from PMO in order to proceed. The approval can be for confomrance to standards laid by organization for project teams. Whether the team follows governance, templates, methodologies outlined.

Directive PMO -- is the one who will not just provide the control but also provide PM expertiese and may also help by lending PM to the project team.  The PMO may actually be a team of experienced project managers who are assigned to projects. This brings in lot of professionalism to projects and consistency

so many thanks :)
