4-day bootcamp now vs. self-study and bootcamp later
I've been an IT PM for about 4 years and am finally going for my PMP. I'm not new to PMBOK as applied in the IT environment: But I am by no means an expert on all aspects of the PMBOK. There are several (expensive) 4-day bootcamps available that my employer will pay for. They all have "pass or your money back" guarantees.
My question is: Will a 4-day boot camp adequately prepare a working PM to pass the exam, or should I dedicate weeks (or months) of self-study before doing the boot camp? Obviously, weeks or months of study would improve anybody's chances. But would you veterans say it's a MUST? Thanks.

Both self study and boot camp
There is way too much content, concepts, formulas and processes to take a 4 day boot camp and expect to soonafter take the exam (and pass). Would recommend 2 to 3 weeks prior, with some books and self study, then Boot camp followed by 1 to 3 months self study, depending upon work/life commitments. Good luck!

Hi Machael,
Hi Machael,
I can understand your situation. I would like to share an article about Online PMP Training vs Classroom Training. It would be helpful to you to take a decision on your PMP preparation. All the best for your PMP.

Disclaimer Needed
Thanks for sharing this article. To anybody else reading this, I'd like to point out that the article n the link is to a company that provides online training: It's not an unbiased analysis of online training vs. a live class. Take a lucky guess at which method a company selling online training recommends!

Bootcamp vs online training vs selfstudy
Boot camps are always exam oriented. They cover only the important topics and they will also ask you to study PMBOK5 2-3 times along with PMP Prepbook (2-3) times. Some bootcamps provide 30 day support. The trainer will be available via email or phone.
There are online trainings like PMPrepcast, Izenbridge and they provide you with videos on all the topics from PMBOK5. Moreover they are available for you to download and watch it in mobile anytime or anywhere. This is my pick as you can easily refer to them whenever required unless the bootcamp where you cant enjoy this facility.
Finally both bootcamp and online trainings will suggest you to read PMBOK atleast twice and also attempt as many as mock questions.
The preparation time would be anywhere from 45-60 days.

I feel you should go for the boot camp as it is a requirement as well as it will make a frame in your mind regarding the whole PMP exam. Self study is the key i agree.
But i feel there is no need to push it back.

This depends on several
This depends on several factors.
The reason why I ask these 2 questions is that in general the people who answer yes to both in general know PMI terminology as their job/organization uses them daily. The PMP test is based on super large projects as well.
Self-Paced vs 4 day PMP boot camp
Again there are pros and cons. Each person is different on how they learn. Some people earn their MBA totally online and others go to a phyiscal classroom.
