Best time to join PMI
Submitted by Lorenz on Wed, 09/04/2013 - 02:53
Hi, I am just starting my PMP studies and I am wondering when is the best time to join PMI. Aside from the network and resources, I understand the being a PMI member entitles me discounts on exam fees, among others. I also understand that the membership has an expiration date.
Since I am not paying for the exam in the next two months, do you think I should defer signing up for PMI membership until I have my PDUs and ready to pay for the exam? Thanks.

As far as I'm aware, you can
As far as I'm aware, you can take the PMI membership any time you wish to. PMP Application fee has to be paid only after you have earned the required PDUs. Once your application is approved, you need to completed the PMP cert within an year.

Best time to join PMI
Hi Lorenz,
You can sign in PMI anytime. But if you didnt get your PDUs within that 1 year PMI emmbership period it is a waste. Get your PDUs first and if you are determined to do the study for PMP certification (*IMPORTANT*), you can be a member in PMI. Once you become a member then you can download latest PMBOK soft copy and start perparing (with other books also ). Once you are confident to take the exam, you can register for the exam.
1) Get the PDUS first
2) If Determined to study for the exam then
Be a PMI member and download PMBOK. Start studying the PMBOK and guides from Rita OR
Andy crowe OR KIM etc.
else
Wait for the good time for your study.
3) Once you feel confident after studiying PMBOK and other meterials, then fix the Exam and clear it.
But most of my friends say that fixing the exam motivates you to study intensively. :D
