Straight definition is it is longest path through the project (PMBOK Glossary).
The negative float has been given to imply the reduction on the critical path or scenarion where in there is requirement for applying the schedule compression and showing negative float. (may be incorrect but can check with some one else also)

Activities on the critical path have zero float, If the activities are delayed, float will be -ve;
but by definition I assume it is B
Is that correct?
